Bringing Next-Gen RFID Automation for Library Management

Present Pain Areas in Library Management  Tedious inventory taking process.  Book issue & returns to/from patrons takes considerable time since it is a manual paper based process – patron queuing problems.  Lack of visibility to book availability and their location as inventory taking is done once a year.  Unauthorized movement of books outside the library by non-members.  Tedious inventory taking process.  Book issue & returns to/from patrons takes considerable time since it is a manual paper based process – patron queuing problems.  Lack of visibility to book availability and their location as inventory taking is done once a year.  Unauthorized movement of books outside the library by non-members.

Orizin Proposed Solution – RFID TECHNOLOGY  RFID is a wireless technology that is being used for tracking, security and inventory taking process of books.  With this technology every book whether stationary or moving can be networked and identified without the need of line of sight.  All communication happens through two type of sensors called reader and tag/label  Tags are tiny sensors that are pasted on books. They have a unique identification number making the book on which it is placed ‘unique’ and also some limited memory to store necessary data like book id, UID no etc.  Reader is a device that can sense tags around its field, communicate with them and transmit the tag’s data to the LAN/internet

SOLUTION DETAILS

RFID Enables Library of Future Staff Station Purpose: Patron identification, automated issue & return of books Benefits: Reduces patron queuing, improves productivity Basic Infrastructure : Every book is pasted with RFID tags. Tag id is mapped to book id and its attributes in the database Gate Security System Purpose: security of books Benefits: any unauthorized movement of books from the library is tracked and alarm raised. Reduces theft and shrinkage RFID Handheld Reader Purpose: Stock taking and location management Benefits: Simplifies stock taking of books. Also helps in sorting and identification of a given book Book Drop Box Purpose: Remote & automated book return system Benefits: Automated & 24x7 system of book return Self Check in//Out Kiosk Purpose: Self Check in/out Benefits: Patron can get book issued/return without the need for library staff.Touch screen will also help in book search and availability Central IT Infrastructure Client machines, servers and integrated library management system
