15 Application FAQ’s What is the difference between the weighted and the unweighted GPA?  Cumulative GPA (weighted) reflects the EIS 4 point graduated grading scale. Cumulative GPA (unweighted) reflects the state-mandated KEES grading scale and is used for KEES reporting purposes only. What is the difference between Early Decision, Early Action and Rolling Admission?  Early Decision - Binding  Early Action - Nonbinding  Rolling Admissions - evaluated as received. Application deadlines vary from school to school

16 Counselor/Teacher Recommendations If required: Ask counselor/teacher(s) in person Give 2 weeks notice Teacher/Counselor will need a completed Student Questionnaire and Resume Provide self-addressed stamped envelope

17 What are colleges looking for? GPA + ACT Rigorous curriculum Rank in class Involvement in activities (clubs, sports, organizations) Volunteer experiences THE WELL ROUNDED STUDENT!

18 Students’ Rights & Responsibilities You have the right to wait to respond to an offer of admission and/or financial aid until May 1. You must notify each college/university which accepts you whether you are accepting or rejecting its offer.

19 Campus Visits & College Fairs

20 Campus Visits Agenda page 49 A senior student may take one (1) college visit that does not count as an absence from school. After that, he/she may take four (4) additional visits that will count as excused absences from school (unless they have already missed more than eight (8) days of school). Any request to make more than five college visits during the senior year will require prior approval by the principal. Requests to use a College Visit should be made in the Guidance Office at least one week prior to the visit. The student must pick up a college visit form from the guidance office. An official at the college upon completion of the visit must sign this. Students are not allowed to make a college visit during the last two weeks of school or during final examinations. The student does not need to inform the Guidance Office or obtain approval for college visits made on a school break or on a weekend.

24 EHS will be holding a Scholarship/Financial Aid workshop in December Cannot file FAFSA until January 1, 2016 You will need your state and federal income tax info (you can estimate from 2014 taxes filed in 2015) College Goal Sunday – More info later FAFSA must be filed online at www.fafsa.govwww.fafsa.gov Deadline to file is Feb. 15 th but should complete ASAP DO NOT pay to file your FAFSA form. There are sites out there that try to scam students and parents. The REAL thing is FREE!!!

27 KHEAA Accessing Your KEES Account www.kheaa.com Click on the Sign In button in the top right hand corner to access or register for a free, personalized account. Use this customized tool to:  View and verify your KEES award amounts  Request your personalized breakdown of college costs and estimated financial aid based on your specific college choices and your family’s unique financial circumstances  Access the KHEAA ILP for private school, home school and adult students  Apply for state scholarships

28 KEES Account Create account on KHEAA website Receive $$ for GPA + ACT $$ Directly transfers from KHEAA to college The money does not go to a student college account until the student is admitted, enrolled and in attendance Students must maintain a certain GPA in college to keep their KEES money
