1 The World of Poetry!! Get excited!!

2 Pretty fountain flowing free With thick dark red blood
The last winter leaves Clinging to the black branches Explode into birds Beautiful old oak Pretty fountain flowing free With thick dark red blood slowly and softly falling swiftly to the ground lays there very still ANYONE KNOW WHAT WE CALL THESE POEMS???

3 HAIKUS!! Here are the characteristics: A focus on nature.
A "season word" such as "snow" which tells the reader what time of year it is. A division somewhere in the poem, which focuses first on one thing, then on another. The relationship between these two parts is sometimes surprising. Instead of saying how a scene makes him or her feel, the poet shows the details that caused that emotion. If the sight of an empty winter sky made the poet feel lonely, describing that sky can give the same feeling to the reader.

4 Snow melting Air warming Trees coming to life Flowers budding
Next Up? Catalog Poem! A catalog poem is a list of things. It can be any length and may rhyme or not. Usually the images in catalog poems appeal to several of the 5 senses. Here’s an example: Spring Snow melting Air warming Trees coming to life Flowers budding Birds singing Baseball season starting Everything turning green My favorite time of year

5 Here are some examples:
Cinquain Here are some examples: puppy ornery, naughty growling, jumping, chewing a playful bundle of trouble Boxer tree white. tall reaching, bending, fluttering leaves and twigs in the wind Aspen

6 Free Verse! This is where you have the room to be as creative as you want! Free verse poetry does not have to be about a certain topic or have a certain amount of lines or follow a set rhyme scheme. It can be about whatever you want, and you get to decide how long and whether or not it rhymes.

7 Let’s look at an Example:
Voices screeching, fingers pointing A cruel world made for strangers. Blame is crushing, guilt is haunting A prison that no one escapes. There’s nowhere safe For a refugee Like you Like me. Loneliness is a monster From which you cannot run. Where you go, It already waits. Where you hide, All ready, it lurks. You are my hope In the darkness. I believe in love Because of you. Together we are Free from sadness. Because “you and me” Only has room For two.
