3 Haiku 300 year old poem format from Japan three lines with 17 total syllables first line has 5 syllables second line has 7 syllables three line has 5 syllables

4 Examples of Haiku Poems Nature is not ours. It should be left for children, The best gift we give. A cloud of white gnats hatching in the grass, swirling a summer snowstorm

5 Limerick short poem of five lines first, second, and fifth lines all rhyme third and fourth lines rhyme funny or silly poems

6 Limerick Examples There once was a man on the moon Who flew in a hot air balloon. To the red planet Mars, Where he sold brand new cars For Martians to ride on the dunes. There once was a mighty big dog Who thought he was really a frog. He would leap in the air And people would stare, He’d land perfectly upon a fat log.

7 Free Verse does not use rhyming pattern or meter may not have a form expression of the author’s feelings or thoughts on a topic

8 Free Verse Example EGG There are No tags, no tabs Or wrapping paper, Nor flaps, nor string, Sticky tape or ribbon. Never hidden up high On a cupboard shelf. Egg is a package That can open Itself.

The garden hose was the finish line. One by one, we lined up the frogs. (It wasn’t easy.) We yelled: Ready- Set- Go! Seventeen frogs leaped in all directions, croaking. Blurk. Blurk. Blurk. The Great Frog Race was over quickly. One by one, all the contestants hopped off into the moonlight. FREE VERSE
