1 Ms. Lincoln’s Fourth Grade Class Welcome!

2 Welcome to Fourth Grade!  Thank you for coming!!  If you have any questions during my presentation, please write them down and hold them until the end.

3 About Me  My background  I grew up in Castro Valley  I attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and received my B.A. in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Marketing. Worked in the corporate world for 2 years and went back to Cal Poly to receive my Multiple Subject Credential.  My experience  I’ve been teaching for 2 years.  I have also taught second and sixth and have directed teaching experience in first and fifth.  My Interests  I love to travel, play sports, hike, and spend time with family and friends

4 My Goals  To give your children the academic and social skills they need to progress to 5th grade.  To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.  To help children make new friends, develop their talents and have confidence in themselves as learners

5 Our Schedule  8:25 School starts  10:00-10:15 Recess  12:35-1:15Lunch  2:06 or 2:51School ends  Students should not arrive before 8:10. There is no playground supervision before this time.

6 Tardiness School starts at 8:25 A.M. If you aren’t in the line by the time, please check in at the school office before coming to class. Please send your child to school on-time. I start teaching when we walk in the door.

7 Rules  We will follow Frederiksen’s school rules:  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.  Use appropriate words and actions.  Follow all school rules.  Always do your best.

8 Preps and Activities  Thursday: P.E.  Friday: Fine Arts and Class P.E.  Make sure students wear sneakers on Thursday and Friday  Tuesday: Library  Monday: Computer Lab  Band: TBD

9 Management Program  3 part system-individual, team points, and whole group PAT points  Preferred Activity time occurs every Friday. Students who have homework out, will not be able to participate  Program is focused on positive reinforcement

10 Daily Homework Math (M-F) Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science, and special projects (M-Th, generally) Review Packets as needed Reading summaries will vary from 1-3 times a week

11 Homework  To find out what homework has been assigned, check the student planner.  Homework is written in the planner with the teacher at the end of the day.

12  Homework is due at the beginning of class.  Students who do not turn in all of their homework will attend our recess “study hall”.  They will use their first recess time to complete their homework.  Students with missing work, will also lose their PAT. (This does not apply to students who are absent.)  A Missing Assignment Slip will be attached to your child’s Student Planner if homework is not turned in on time and completed. Please discuss the homework with your child, then sign and return the Missing Homework Notice the next day.

13 Missed Homework  Please send a note written on the homework assignment if:  there is a change in schedule at home (emergency, etc.) that prevents your child from finishing their homework;  there is an assignment that no one in your home is able help your child with.

14 Missed Homework  Your note will excuse your child from study hall.  Homework will be made up at home and is due the following day. If it’s not turned in, your child will have study hall on the new due date.

15 Projects, Book Reports, etc.  Projects (book reports, book talks, posters, oral presentations, etc.) will be assigned periodically throughout the year.  I will send home a letter to families to let you know about the projects and due dates when I assign them.

18 4 th Grade Key Math Concepts  Subtraction across zeros  Multi-digit multiplication  Long division  Fractions: comparing, simplest form  Decimals: tenths and hundredths  Geometry: plane and solid figures  Algebra: solving for unknowns/variables  Math Reasoning: multi-step word problems

19 4 th Grade Key Language Arts Concepts  Writing multi-paragraph essays  Adding details and vocabulary to writing  Personal and Creative Narratives  Responding to literature  Examples of grade level reading can be found in your child’s Reading anthology (blue book)

20 Final Thoughts Thank you again for all your support!! As for supplies, We have a community supply system in Room 9.  Any supplies your child needs were on the supply list and have (in most cases) already been given to me.  I will provide any additional supplies needed in the classroom for my students.
