1 Mrs. Harrison’s Kindergarten Class Welcome, students!

2 Welcome to Second Grade!  I will introduce you to kindergarten and to our classroom.  If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.

3 All About Me  My background  I grew up in Ankeny, Iowa.  I attended University of Northern Iowa and I have two bachelors degrees.  My experience  I’ve been teaching for 12 years.  I have also taught third grade, second grade, and first grade.

4 My Family  My husband  Jordan  My children  son, Cole  Our pets  dog, Molly  Cats, Xander, Dani, and Tawny Xander Cole TawnyMollyDani

5 My Goals  To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to first grade.  To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.  To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

6 Class Subjects  The subjects we cover during second grade are:  Reading  Writing  Math  Science  Social Studies

7 Reading  We will focus on phonics and reading.  We will use picture books, decodable books, and magazines.

8 Writing  We will learn how to write a fluent sentence  We will journal daily.

9 Math  We will focus on adding and subtracting  We will also focus on geometry and measurement.

10 Science  We will focus on life cycles, stellar objects, and seasons.

11 Social Studies  We will focus on history, holidays, and communities.

12 Classroom Community  Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.  Our class rules are:  Be respectful and responsible.  Be organized and follow directions.  Be on time.  Be prepared.

13 Homework  I will assign about 10 minutes of homework every night. Please read to your child each night.  You will get homework daily.  The homework is due the following day. If you have some troubles I will give you an extension but you must speak with me.

14 Tardiness  School starts at 9:00 A.M.  If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.  If you are tardy four times, the school will contact your parents.
