2. Testing Summary Set up SAM2.
Set up ECS (E1/Eth) communication controller.
Test communication to SAM1.5 or SAM2 unit via ECS (E1/Eth) coms Controller
Test communication to Access Control unit via ECS (E1/Eth) coms Controller

3. SAM2 Set UP – Via RS232

4. SAM2 – RS232 RS232 Communication Test;
Connect a straight RS232 cable between the Lap Top and the SAM2 RS232 port(DB9 Connector on front panel
Open SAM2 ECT
Select “Com Port” and double click on “Password”

5. SAM2 – Set up via RS232 continued
RS232 Communication Test; Cont;
Active communication will be shown on the bottom left as indicated with the RED circle until it says “received”
Click on “Load Config” and select the applicable config file.
Click on “Update SAM” and wait until SAM has been updated – This can be seen on the bottom left as indicated with the RED circle until it says “received”
Click on “Sync Time”
Click on “Get Config” and ensure that SAM2 shows you the current date and time.
Capture SAM2 Serial number.
Click on “Update”

6. SAM2 – Set up via RS232 continued1
RS232 Communication Test; Cont;
Click on “Alarm Configuration” tab
Select “RS485” under “Coms Config”
Click on “Set”
Click on “Get Config”
Click on “Set Config”
Check that “Intruder” alarm is number “9”
Check that “Movement” alarm is number “11”

8. ECS(E1/Eth) Coms Controller – Set up
Connect a Straight RS232 cable the Lap Top and the ECS(E1/ETH) Coms Controller diagnostics port.
Open ECS(E1/ETH) ECT
Insert “User name” and “Password”
Select “Serial Communication and click on “Login” 1 2 3 4

9. ECS(E1/Eth) Controller – Set up4
ECS(E1/ETH) Set Up:
Click on “Find” to connect to unit
Check that the units has the latest Firmware version being “ ”
If Not on latest version, upgrade to latest version
Click on “Down Load”
Capture the IP address as indicated
Click on “Set”

10. ECS(E1/Eth) Coms Controller – Set up
ECS(E1/ETH) Set Up:
Capture ECS(E1/ETH) Coms Port setup as per screen print
Click on “Set” on the “Network” tab once done.

11. Testing Communication to the SAM or Access Control unit
via the ECS(E1/Eth) communication controller

12. Laptop – Set up SAM Training Laptop Set Up:
Your Laptop IP address needs to be changed so that it is within range of the coms controller
Connect LAN cable between the Coms controller and the Laptop
Open Network settings
Click on “Local area Connection”
Click on “Properties”
Select “Internet protocol Version 4(TCP/IP).
Click on “Use the following IP Address”
Capture the IP address – IP address will be the same as the Coms controller except the last digit must differ
The Subnet mask and gateway IP must be the same as the coms controller
Click on “OK”

13. SAM2 Communication Test
via the ECS(E1/Eth) communication controller

14. SAM2 – Communication test via ECS2 Communication Controller – “RS485”
RS485 Communication Test;
Connect a LAN cable between the Lap Top and the ECS(E1/Eth) LAN port
Open SAM2 ECT
Select “TCP” and insert the IP address of the ECS(E1/Eth) and Port 301 and double click on “Password”

Active communication will be shown on the bottom left as indicated with the RED circle until it says “received”

Click on “Get Time”
Click on “Log off”
Click on “Exit”
