11 11 Lab book Use the contents page Refer back to commonly used methods – Routine methods section? Electronic data – On a CD or DVD and taped in. Specific path for archived data Could you follow your records 5 years later? Could someone else follow your records?

12 12 Lab book Filled in daily Each page signed and dated by you Checked and signed by your supervisor at the very minimum every 2 weeks Preferably weekly Completed Lab books must be logged with the School when you leave

13 13 Marking Training log and Lab Book Intermediate assessment 13 th December 2007 Final mark 1 st May 2008 Assessed by Andy Grierson and Angie Cox 10 min formal meeting No excuses

14 14 Research report 1 st years research in a paper format! Look at papers and follow the writing style Abstract (250 words), Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Figures with Legends Use Endnote for references and use a numbered style. Hand your library in! Not to exceed 4000 words (Std paper length)

15 15 Research report Encourage to format in a published paper style rather than just standard pages 10 point Arial font 2 columns Design figures to fit either 1 or 2 columns Check figure once shrunk to fit for readable font size and figure impact. Don’t forget the figure legend!

16 16 Research report - Submission 7 th April 2007. 4.30pm. Every day late you lose 5% of your final Mark. 2 Printed copies and 1 Electronic copy to Jodie Burnham (L116). j.a.burnham @shef.ac.uk You must email your Endnote reference Library to Jodie
