5 WHAT IS REFERENCING? The practice of acknowledging the source and origin of the ideas or information that we used in our academic writing and presentation so as to avoid committing plagiarism by means of an established method of documenting the source.

7 WHICH SYSTEM TO USE? AUTHOR –DATE system such as the Harvard or APA ( American Psychological Association ) NUMERATE system such as CHICAGO or TURANIAN system

8 HARVARD SYSTEM In this system of referencing, acknowledgement of the source is done TWICE in the assignment namely: 1) Author and Date ( sometimes page ) in the text of the body of the assignment in bracket 2) All the details of each source in the Reference List at the end.

10 REFERENCE LIST Contains the full listing of all sources used and cited in the In Text of the Assignment and under the Harvard system MUST be listed by Alphabetical order.
