I: Cover (look on the back of this page for instructions) II: Title Page (look on the back of this page for instructions) III: Table of Contents (topics with their page numbers) IV: World Map (instructions and map will be provided in class). V: Hand Drawn National Map (instructions and paper will be provided in class) A- Center your country so that it takes up most of the paper. B- Label the NAME of your country. C- Label the OCEAN(S) nearest to your country. D- Draw a star and label your CAPITAL. E- Draw and label the major RIVER. F- Label the name of the CONTINENT outside of your border. VI: National Flag (the flag must fit inside your binder) A- Construct a flag with an inexpensive material such as felt or foam board. B- DO NOT DRAW your flag! (but you may draw any small symbols and glue them to the material). VII: Report A- GEOGRAPHY: Write a 1 page report about the geography of your country. 1- Physical Geography: mountains, rivers, peninsulas, bodies of water, islands, deserts, and other interesting natural features should be included. 2- Political Geography: the capital, regions, three major cities, surrounding countries and famous man made land marks should be included. 3- TWO MAPS: one physical map and one political map will be drawn to accompany the geography report. Include those features mentioned above. B- CLIMATE: Write a ½ page report about the climate of your country. 1- Describe the hemispheres, temperatures, and seasons of your country. 2- Does it have a Continental or Mediterranean Climate? C- HISTORY: Write a 2 page report about their history, from the 1 st nomads to yesterday. 1- Do not spend too much time on one era of their history 2- CURRENT EVENT: Cut out a recent article about your country from the newspaper or news magazine and glue it to a blank page with a title. D- GOVERNMENT: Write a 1 page report about the government of your country. 1- Political System: include type of government (Monarchy, Oligarchy, Democracy), title and name of leader, the role of the people, Is it a Republic?, etc. 2- Economic System: include G.N.P. Ranking, Per Capita Income, imports, exports. Do they use Capitalism, Socialism or Communism? E- CULTURE: Write a 1 page report about the culture of your country. 1- Include languages and religions. 2- Also include traditions, holidays, sports, music, art, food, tourist attractions and any other element that would make your country fun to visit. How do they say hello? VIII: Bibliography (at least 3 sources must be used) You cannot pass this report without a bibliography. A- Use your textbook, library books, encyclopedias, articles and websites. B- Include: Title, Volume Number, Author(s), Publication Date and Page Numbers used.

2 THIS REPORT IS WORTH 2 MAJOR GRADES!!! Parents must be notified of this assignment. This should be a surprise to no one. - Assigned: _____________________ - Due Date: _____________________ MECHANICS… A- The report may be printed, but you must do the typing yourself. Do not change font size, spacing, color or style throughout the report. You must place your written work at the end of the report or points will be deducted. B- You may write your report by hand. It must be in ink. Do not change ink color. No rough draft is needed if you write your report by hand. C- No pencil must be used on the final product. D- Write on the FRONT SIDE of the page only on the final copy. Do not write on the back. E- Two scratch-outs or white-outs are allowed. The rest will result in a loss of points. To make a proper scratch-out, draw 1 line through the mistake. F- No abbreviations should be used on the final copy. G- Use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization. H- Map rules must be followed on all maps. I- The notebook must be bound together in a binder. Paper clipping and stapling the final report will result in a loss of points. J- BE NEAT!!! COVER… Design an interesting cover for your notebook. Construct, draw or make a collage of pictures to introduce us to your country. The name of the country must be on the cover. You may make a PowerPoint© cover, but it must be YOUR work. TITLE PAGE…in the center of a blank white piece of paper, write the following information: (no more, no less) Your Name Social Studies: Period ______ Date Name of your Country MAPS… all map instructions will be individually assigned in class. GRADING GUIDELINES… 1: World and National Map = 10 points6: Government = 10 points 2: Flag = 10 points7: Culture = 10 points 3: Geography (with maps) = 10 points8: Other * = 10 points 4: Climate = 10 points9: Mechanics = 10 points 5: History (with current event) = 10 points 10: Presentation = 10 points OTHER* includes cover, title page, table of contents, rough draft, and this instruction sheet. PRESENTATION will be on a volunteer basis or by numbers that have been drawn. DO NOT LOSE!!! this instruction sheet, maps and the rough draft. They must be saved and turned in with the final report.
