2 Criteria to Participate in an After School Snack Program LEA must participate in the NSLP; and The LEA must sponsor or operate a child care program which: contains an educational/enrichment activity offered after the regular school day. regularly scheduled activities in an organized, structured and supervised environment. Or… Is considered an extension of the instructional school day for the enrolled students.

3 Criteria to Participate, continued It is the LEA that must assume/maintain responsibility for meeting Program requirements.

4 Programs not qualifying for an After School Snack Program Organized athletic programs engaged in interscholastic or community level competition may not be approved: Youth sport leagues, such as baseball leagues, soccer leagues, football leagues, and area swim teams would not qualify.

5 Programs not qualifying, continued Head Start Programs Kindergarten Classes Clubs such as 4-H, Scouts, etc…

6 Approved Service Days After School Snack Programs must be regularly scheduled, following the regular school day. Snacks cannot be claimed for reimbursement that are served on weekends, holidays, school breaks, or during summer vacation.

8 Snack – Meal Pattern Snacks must contain at least two of the four meal components (in the required amounts) milk fruit and/or vegetable meat/meat alternate bread/grain

10 Eligibility Criteria Snacks: Snack sites must be added to the site application on the online system accompanied by an application for approval. Income Eligible Snack Program: site is < 50% FRP. Area Eligible Snack Program: site is ≥50%. October Data.

11 Area Eligibility – Defined A site qualifies as area eligible if it is in the attendance area of a school which has at least 50% of it’s enrollment eligible for free or reduced-price meals. A school that qualifies as “area eligible” may also qualify any other school/site in the same attendance zone.

12 Area Eligibility, continued An Elementary, middle, or a high school may be used to qualify any other school in the same attendance zone.

By category at schools not designated as area-eligible Production records and menus Two required reviews a. First 4 weeks of school/date the afterschool snack program started b. 2 nd review during the school year Daily income records maintained if cash collected Documentation qualifying each afterschool care program to participate in the ASCP Claims for reimbursement filed correctly

14 After School Snack Program Forms

15 Planned Menus Menu planning requirements for the snack program are the same as for NSLP A written planned menu by the identified menu planner for the district. Level 2 Certification or above required. Substitutions to the planned menus must be identified as such on the production record.

16 Sample Menu Monday Bran Muffin, 2 oz., Orange Wedges ¼ c., Apple Juice 4 oz. Tuesday Pretzels,.75 oz., Skim chocolate milk Wednesday Low-fat cheese stick, 1 oz., 1 oz. whole grain crackers, 8 oz. water Thursday Whole Apple, 1 cup Skim Chocolate Milk, 8 oz. Friday Low fate yogurt, 4 oz. Petite banana 3/8 c. Grape Juice, 4 oz.

17 Production Record The menu and production record is on the SCN website. There is a menu and production record available for both area eligible and income eligible programs. If these menu and production records are not utilized by the SFA, a snack production record must be submitted for approval at the time of application.

18 Reimbursement Area Eligible: All eligible snacks are reimbursed at the free rate Income Eligible: Snacks are reimbursed according to student eligibility free reduced-price paid

19 School Application Application for ASCP occurs within the SNP Site Application in the application packet in CNIPS. Section C, questions C1. – C.9.
