2. NATURAL RESOURCES Concept Any natural material that is used by humans OR resources that the Earth provides for you are called natural resources. Ex: Water, Petroleum, Minerals, Forests

3. Renewable Resources Concept A Natural Resource that can be replaced at the same rate at which the resource is used. EX: Trees,Wind, Water, Solar energy Non-renewable Resources Concept A resource that forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate at which it is consumed EX: Coal, Petroleum (Oil), Natural Gas, fossil fuel NATURAL RESOURCES

5. Why Conserve Water? Our water supply is finite, which means that we do not have an endless supply. We only have the water that we have now. Ninety - seven percent of all the water on the earth is salt water which is not suitable for drinking. Only three percent of all the water is fresh water, and only one percent is available for drinking water. The other two percent is locked in ice caps and glaciers Each of us depends on water for life. Its our responsibility to keep our water pure and safe for generations to come…

6. How can Water be conserved? By using only the water needed By recycling water By using drip irrigation systems. Waste water can be treated by sewage treatment plants and septic systems

8. Concept: Fossil fuels are the product of the fossilized remains of dead plants and animals that have been exposed to the heat and pressure deep within the earth’s crust. Ex: Petroleum(gasoline),natural gas and coal Use : 86% of the world’s energy comes directly from burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are the source of energy for almost every machine,including the generators that produce electric energy. Fossil fuels(Non-renewable resource)

11. 1 Ride a bike: Instead of driving a car or taking a bus, try cycling or walking to your destination. This is better for the environment and better for you. 2 Buy solar panels: These are expensive but use solar power to heat your home, unlike heaters they don't use fossil fuels for heat. 3 Try not to use too much plastic: Fact: most of the plastic bags used today are made of oil. If there is no other alternative then just recycle them when done. 4 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Making new cans and bottles take a whole lot more fossil fuels then recycling an old one. 5 Turn off lights: Several million people leave there lights on when going on vacation,business trips, etc, without even knowing it. 6 Influence others: Start a campaign that helps the environment.
