2 MS Announcements: Tuesday, Jan. 22 nd Middle School 1.Congratulations to West Liberty-Salem’s Middle School Science Olympiad team for a great performance at the Magsig Invitational tournament in Centerville. Our school won a 6th place team trophy as eleven different team members won awards in seven events including gold medals in the event Boomilever and silver medals in the event Rock & Minerals. Next up is the Solon Invitational tournament in Cleveland on February 2nd. 2.Attention 8 th graders - Are you an 8 th grader who wants to take college classes on a college campus next year as a ninth grader? If so, this announcement is for you. On Monday, February, 4 from 6:30-8:00 pm, the HS Guidance Office will be sponsoring its annual Post Secondary Education Options Program Mandatory Counseling Meeting in the WL-S Media Center. This is a required information/counseling session for students entering grades 9-12 for the 2013-2014 school year who wish to leave the WLS campus to take college courses while in high school. Please stop in the HS Guidance Office if you have any questions. This meeting is only required for those eighth graders and parents who are interested in taking college courses on a college campus during ninth grade. 3.The Middle School Talent Show will be next Wednesday, January 30 th at 1:45pm. If you have any questions about the talent show, see Mrs. Catlin. Athletics 1.Last Thursday: The 7th grade Lady Tigers defeated Cedarville Indians 40-23. Taylor Lauck had 5 points, Julie Parker had 5 rebounds and 2 steals, and Jonni Parker had 6 rebounds and 23 points. The 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Cedarville 48-31. Lily Yoder had 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, Kiana Reames had 9 rebounds, Mikaila McIntosh had 12 points and 5 assists, Jenna Magnuson had 5 rebounds, and Olivia Ames had 4 points. 2.Last Thursday: The 7th Grade Boys earned a 36-16 win over Cedarville. James Loffing led scoring with 8pts, while Max Eggleston added 7pts and Thomas Allen scored 6pts. The 8th Grade Boys earned a 53-13 win over Cedarville. Luke Woods led scoring with 12pts, Brandon Wolfe added 11pts, Kannon Stillings scored 9pts and Jerret Smith had 6pts. 3.Our middle school wrestling team hosted the Tiger Wrestling Invitational last Friday. Zach Bane and Levi Moell each won two matches for the Tigers including a pin each. Treven Marchal continues to improve every match. 4.On Saturday, the 7th Grade Boys (9-1) defeated Graham 40-37. James Loffing 11pts and Neil Markin added 8pts. The 8th Grade Boys (9-1) defeated Graham 38-28. Brandon Wolfe 10pts, Kannon Stillings 7pts, and Dillon Callicoat added 6pts. 5.On Saturday, the 7th grade Lady Tigers (12-1) defeated Graham 46-17. The Tigers stellar defense was the spark to a good offensive attack. Kenedie Cox and Laine Godwin each contributed 6 points, Aubrie Stillings tossed in 10 points, 3 assists and 2 steals, and Jonni Parker had 20 points 8 rebounds. Taylor Lauck led the defensive attack with 5 steals and gave up 3 assists to help her team. The 8th Grade Lady Tigers (12-1) defeated Graham 34-16. For the Tigers Lilly Yoder had 6 steals, 2 assists and 15 points going 6 for 7 from the line. Mikalia McIntosh put in 10 points and had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Ashley Rabenstein was also strong on the boards with 7 rebounds.
