HS Announcements: Monday, Sept. 24th High School 1.There will be an FCCLA meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 26 th during first homeroom for any high school student interested in being involved this year. Juniors and seniors attending will need to bring their lunch with them to the FCS room. Come share your ideas for a great year. 2.The High School Science Olympiad Team organizational meeting will take place Monday, Sept. 24 th at 7:30pm in the HS Media Center. All students wishing to participate should make plans to attend. If students have questions, they can contact Elizabeth Hance. 3.Attention Juniors & Seniors. The following institutions and military branches will have representatives here to meet with you either in the media center or in Lab 70 during homeroom time: 9/24 – Bowling Green State University 9/25 – Cedarville University 9/26 – Wright State University 10/1 – Army National Guard 10/2 – UNOH 10/4 – Eastern Mennonite University 10/5 – Rhodes State 10/8 – Hesston Please stop by guidance to sign up or if you have any questions. 4.The HS Guidance Office will be collecting money for the PLAN test that will be given to sophomores until Friday, Oct. 5. Any sophomore who plans to attend a 4-year college post- graduation is encouraged to take this practice entrance examination. The cost is $11.75. Please bring your check made out to WL-S Schools or cash into the Guidance Office by 11:30 am when Ms. Tennant is here. 5.Seniors- If you are interested in applying to Otterbein-if you apply online prior to November 1-they will waive the application fee. If you wait and apply after November 1, you will have to pay the $25 application fee. Otterbein accepts their own online application or the Common Application. There is an essay, recommendation, and counselor form that is required with the application. 6.Jim Bisenius, who spoke to all HS and MS students last week, will be speaking to WLS parents this evening from 6:30-8:00pm in the cafetorium. All parents and students are invited to attend. 7.The Colors Joy 5K Run will take place on Oct. 14 th at Bellefontaine High School at 3:00pm. All proceeds from this race will benefit Joy DelaPena’s family. Early registration fee is $25 if submitted by Sept. 27 th. Registration forms are available in the office. 8.Picture Day will be this Wednesday, September 26 th for students in grades 6-11. 9.Homecoming is this week. If you plan to bring a guest to the Homecoming dance (meaning someone who is not currently a student at WLS high school) you need to get a guest form from Mrs. Neer in the office. Homecoming Spirit Week themes are: Monday: Favorite Rock Star or College Day Tuesday: Neon or 80s Day Wednesday:Red, White and Blue Day (also picture day) Thursday:Group Dress-up Day Friday:Orange and Black Day 10.There will be a Homecoming Parade Thursday evening at 7:00 in West Liberty. The parade will start at Lions Park, head west on Pickrelltown, south on Main, and return to the park on SR 245. A pep rally and bon fire will follow at the park. 11.There will be a Homecoming Pep Rally at school on Friday at 2:10. Ohip Hi Point students and Work Release seniors who want to attend the pep rally need to sign-in at the office prior to the pep rally. 12.The Homecoming King and Queen Crowning Ceremony will take place at 6:15 at the football stadium on Friday before the game. 13.Congratulations to Matt Kauffman who has been selected to receive the Honda-OSU Partnership Math Medal Award for the WLS Class of 2013. Matt will be honored at a special breakfast ceremony on November 1 st at Honda of America Manufacturing in Marysville. 14.Any NHS member interested in Community Service hours, please call Mrs. Hostetler from Bethel Mennonite for tutoring training, She needs names of those interested as soon as possible. Athletics 1.The 8th Grade Volleyball Team defeated Northeastern on Thursday. Lexi Jarrett led with 16 points and 2 aces. Camille Whitcraft had 13 points with 7 aces, Olivia Aimes had 7 points with 4 aces and 4 kills. Mikayla McIntosh had 10 kills. The Tigers are 3-6 and play at Cedarville today. 2.The 7th Grade Volleyball Team improved to 9-0 by defeating Northeastern on Thursday. Jonni Parker led with 15 points with 7 kills. Aubrie Stillings added 7 points. The Tigers play at Cedarville today. 3.The Varsity Football team improved to 5-0 by defeating Springfield Catholic Central 25-6 Friday night. 4.The Varsity Golf Team will play in the Sectional Golf Tournament tomorrow at Beechwood Golf Course. The bus will leave WLS at 6:45am and the team will be out all day.
