Web OPAC & GUI (Staff) Search v.16 eSeminar Doron Greenshpan

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 2 Session Agenda v15-v16 Web OPAC GUI Search v14-v15

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 3 General Web OPAC The www_eng directory no longer exists. The icon directory has been divided into different directories according to application and is placed with the html files directory. For example: /alephe/www_f_eng/icon /alephe/www_s_eng/icon This causes changes in references to the html files. From: src="&icon_path_eng/icon/f-go.gif" to: src="&icon_path/f-go.gif"

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 4 General Web OPAC You can now have multiple css files with base extensions to account for different BIB databases. This solves the need to duplicate HTML pages. If no such extension exists, the default exlibris.css file will be used. e.g. exlibris-usm01.css The OPAC query now has a “sticky” functionality that places the last search query in the Find and Browse query field, per session. A new drop-down list for selecting bases to search, was added to all search windows.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 5 General Web OPAC New https options to Web OPAC pages. A JavaScript function was added to files whose names starts with ‘-bor’ to disable the option of them being saved in the browser’s history. This way, a new logged-in patron cannot click ‘Back’ to see the details of a previous patron.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 6 Display of Links in the Brief View A URI ($$u) link can now be included in the Brief view of a record, as defined in new lines in tab_buf_z403. 1 2 3 !!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!! !!!!!!!!!! SHORT-VIEW get_buf_z403_bib 856##,,y,*,Y, SHORT-VIEW get_buf_z403_bib 856##,,y,-,U, SHORT-VIEW get_buf_z403_bib 505##,,u,*,U, Col. 3: filtering parameters (field, subfield, subfield contents, relevant display parameter in edit_field.lng (e.g. Y or U)).

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 7 Display of Links in the Brief View Supports display of multiple occurrences of $$u using a new table tab_expand_external (which defines how expand_doc_split_external works). The field tag must be listed in the table in order to display each $$u as a separate link. Original data: 8564 L $$4$$uhttp://authorities.loc.gov $$uhttp://dublincore.org Output: 8564 L $$$4$uhttp://authorities.loc.gov 8564 L $$$4$uhttp://dublincore.org

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 8 Embedded URLs There is a new option for presenting click-able URLs embedded in the text (e.g. in the General Note field). This can be done by adding ‘S’ to column 10 of edit_doc_999.lng.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 9 Multi-Base Search Results Results of a Multi-base Search (find-m) are presented on a new Multi-base Search Results page instead of displaying Brief/Full records. If records were found only in one base, Brief/Full will be displayed. A default group of bases can be defined in www_server.conf: www_parallel_search_base USM01-UNI01-XYZ01

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 10 Other Search Goodies www_server.conf no longer uses: set_result_limit sort_limit The default is 1000. Filters were added to the Refine Search window. Filter option ‘Range on Data’ may now also apply to specific subfield content.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 11 Permuted Adjacency Search Results Results of adjacency search now also include records where the keywords are not adjacent.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 12 Save/Mail Options This page has been improved: A wider choice of save/email formats (including an ISI format for Endnote and ALEPH Sequential). ‘Create you own format’ option. Encoding options (incl. Unicode). Save/Mail is offered on Brief List, Full Display, e_Shelf and Basket.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 13 Due Date Text The text for the Due Date col. has been moved from error_eng/www_f_heading/ to error_eng/circ_status_holding (nos. 8000-8013). New text 8013 only displays if an item has an Item Process Status. !!!!-!!!!-!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!> 8000 0000 L On Hold 8001 0000 L Requested 8002 0000 L Expected on $1 8003 0000 L In Transit/Sublibrary 8004 0000 L Lost 8005 0000 L Claimed Returned

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 14 Syndetics Cover Images A new service allows libraries that work with Syndetics bibliographic enrichment data to add cover image displays to the Full View. The cover image stems from the record's ISBN. This service is initialized by adding the value ICON to the edit_doc_999.lng table. In addition, an OPAC user can click on the cover image to display a new floating window containing additional information about the item.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 15 SFX Linking tab_sfx (BIB library's data_tab), defines which icon is displayed for the SFX link, and determines what SFX services are available when a record is found in a specific base. USM01 www_f_sfx 11 N getAuthorEmail USM01 www_f_sfx_em 12 N getCitedJournal

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 16 Format for Endnote A new format, 777, and a table, edit_doc_777 (BIB library), added for saving into ISI ResearchSoft’s Tagged Output Format to be used in applications such as Endnote. The table defines which fields/subfields will be saved into Endnote’s standard tags.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 17 Assigning File Extensions New table tab_mime_type (alephe_tab) defines file extensions for saving files. For examples: the suffix.end is defined for format 777 (ISI bibliographic tools): !1 2 !!!-!!! 777 end

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 18 GUI Search

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 19 Search Navigation Tree The Search functionality is no longer a separate module, and is now available from the following modules: Circulation Acquisitions Cataloging

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 20 CCL Query Libraries Stored The search base checklist check status is saved and stored.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 21 Logical Bases in Browse The Headings list displays only the headings that are relevant for the logical base to which the Browse is set. Headings that are not within the logical base are not displayed.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 22 Unicode Mode In Find and Browse query fields, you can activate a special mode which enables you to enter text by its Unicode values. The F11 shortcut key allows you to toggle between regular and Unicode entry mode. The message Unicode Mode is displayed in the operations bar.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 23 v.14 – v.15

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 24 You Have Been Framed! There is a new interface for the Web OPAC which is based on a no-frames environment. In this new interface, the use of JavaScript and popup windows is reduced to a minimum. The new files for the no-frames version are located in:./alephe/www_f_lng.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 25 Save on Server It is possible to save records on the server, for later retrieval through the GUI Search function. Select relevant records from a Brief List and click Save on Server – you’ll be asked for a file name. From the GUI Search function, in Find node, click on Load and enter saved file name. The records are saved on alephe_scratch.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 26 e-Shelf There is a new function, e-shelf (z119 stored in USR00), that allows a signed-in user to save and manage his selected records. The records are saved permanently (in contrast to the Basket which is erased at the end of the session). This function is accessed from a button visible to registered users. Note: GBL01 is out.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 27 Save Searches Users can save their search sets for future use. Sets are saved as Z123 in USR00, to be used as ‘bookmarks’ later on.

v.16 Web OPAC & GUI Search 28 Search Limits Search Limits A search limit option has been added to search modes. The search limit options allow the user to limit his searches according to fields such as year, format, language, and so on.
