Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen Conclusions

Assessments and networking The network of marine NRCs will in the future be supported by a network of maritime NRCs. They will have a exploratory meeting in mid November in Trieste. A profile for members of the new maritime network will be published in 2010. NRCs are invited to review the 1 st draft of the marine/maritime/coastal theme of SoER2010, part B by using the webtool at http://soer2010.ew.eea.europa.eu. Countries will also be invited by email to provide comments by 30/11 2009.http://soer2010.ew.eea.europa.eu Countries can voluntarily submit assessments under the SoER2010, part C, flexibility, following the example of Norway EEA is producing two further reports on Water SoE assessment in 2012. One is on water assessments, the other is an integrated coastal assessment in 2012. Both will be discussed in upcoming Eionet workshops in 2010 and 2011.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen Marine data centre (1) Countries should avoid double reporting of the same TCM data by using only one of the 2 possible reporting streams (Eionet, ICES) for a specific dataset. Double reporting can cause data to be represented twice in the TCM database due to small differences in the datasets. MEDPOL data are shared with ICES, but the timing and the representativeness has to be clarified and aligned to EEA/Eionet needs, and we kindly ask Mediterranean countries to continue their data submission via the Eionet. Countries reported that Eionet reporting format changes and changes in the Data Dictionary creates problems with timing of country updates and therefore the EEA and ETC/W agreed that the Data Dictionary should in principle not be changed, to assure timely update of indicators.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen Marine data centre (2) Countries reporting non-oceanographic data via Eionet should use the Eionet reporting template from the Data Dictionary. Countries should check the submitted data sets for the completeness of their time series and submit missing data where relevant. Countries should ensure that reporting of stations is done according to an identified, fixed position and ID for a station and not according to the actual position of the measurement. Water body centroids cannot be used instead of station positions. Countries will check their station datasets reported under WFD Art. 8 and inform EEA by 30 November, whether centroids were reported instead of station positions. Where this is the case, station positions will be reported to EEA. Countries welcomed the Google maps provided and agreed to use them to check the positions of their SoE stations with ICES, MEDPOL and WFD stations using the kmz files provided, and report matching stations to EEA by 30 November.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen Marine data centre (3) EEA recommends that countries quality assure shape files reported under WFD Art. 5, if not already done so. For the development of a GIS reference layer on TC water bodies, the reporting of water body shape/polygon files under WFD Art 13 is necessary in addition to centroids. Countries should ensure that the CIS - GIS guidance document 22 is followed. The relationship between scale and resolutions is defined on page 73 of CIS - GIS guidance document 22. EEA recommends the use of the ECRINS coastline in addition to the CORINE Land Cover coastline. The EEA is developing an update of the ECRINS coastline to include transitional waters.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen MSFD, WISE Marine Countries are invited to be part of the drafting group working on the WISE Marine Implementation Plan under MSFD CIS WG-Data Information and Knowledge Exchange (DIKE). We recommend to you to identify and liaise with colleagues who are members of WG-DIKE.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen WISE-SoE Indicator development and testdata flow (1) Benthic invertebrate fauna (BIF): The test dataflow was well received, most countries participated and most NRCs were aware of it. Annual reporting is in principle possible, but with a subset of locations, which need to be identified. NRCs agreed to repeat and improve the test data flow and to expand to all biological quality elements (in dialog with Ecostat). EEA recommends to workshop partiipants that this willingness is communicated to Ecostat colleagues. EEA/ETC to improve on BIF reporting template based on country and Ecostat feed back incl. representativeness of stations and reporting frequency.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen CSI040 on Hazardous substances on biota: Countries will continue their reporting on the 7 substances in biota (or a subset of them) to support CSI040 for at least 2 years and will inform EEA on any changes resulting from EQSD implementation. EEA/ETC will continue improving and using the indicator, and will reconsider the number of substances and matrixes once the national monitoring plans have been clarified. Countries to raise concern in national discussion for the implementation of the EQSD on the need to fulfill the regional sea convention obligations regarding substances. The Chemical Monitoring Guidance Documents under the WFD CIS can help to clarify issues regarding biota monitoring. WISE-SoE Indicator development and testdata flow (2)

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen GMES work related to ocean color JRC will provide access to Baltic Sea regional data set to EEA as part of the joint work programme JRC will also eventually provide access to a Black Sea regional data set MyOcean catalogue (http://www.myocean.eu.org/ ) will provide regional data sets for Bay of Biscay, North Sea and Mediterranean Seahttp://www.myocean.eu.org/ Individual countries (B, PL, SE) have expressed interest on a specific ocean colour testing as suggested by ETC. More countries are welcome to participate.

Date/ event: 4-5 November 2009, marine and coastal Eionet Workshop, Copenhagen Next steps All presentations and conclusions will be uploaded to Circa by 9 November Answers by countries to the questions in all working documents (already in Circa) to be send to Trine (trine.christiansen@eea.europa.eu ) by 30 November. Reminders will be sent by email.trine.christiansen@eea.europa.eu Draft minutes send out for consultation by mid December, date for feed back provided at that time, final minutes in January
