11 VALUES : things/ideas that are important to you. I believe… ◦ What is important to you and what makes you behave in a certain way. (Being with others, family, honesty, generosity) Future values ◦ maybe security, freedom, challenge, creativity. Others?

12 When first asked, you probably say the word “value” means how much you can get for your money. It also means what’s inside you.. your feelings and thoughts. They are the ideas and things important to you. Examples: ◦ If you think having friends is important, than you value friendship. ◦ If you like spending time by yourself, then you value being alone. ◦ If you want to talk to others about your problems, then you value their ideas and opinions. ◦ When you decide that something’s important to you, you make a valued decision. Values help you decide between: ◦ What you like and don’t like ◦ What seems right or wrong ◦ What you will or won’t do.

13 Value Formation According to Morris Massey values are formed during three significant periods: 1. Imprint period from birth to 7 years. 2. Modelling period from 8 –13 years. 3. Socialization period from 13 –21 years.

They lose energy from being around people for long periods of time, particularly large crowds. Extroverts, on the other hand, gain energy from other people. Extroverts actually find their energy is sapped when they spend too much time alone. They recharge by being social.
