2 Seats  Your first assignment! Organize yourselves alphabetically (according to LAST name) and line yourselves up along the outside of the room. Do not sit at desks yet

3 Introductions  Ms. Lea  Attendance – Are you in the right class/period?  Registration

4 Chemistry I – During Registration  Pick up one of each item over on the table (you should have 8 items)  Read “Why Study Chemistry?”  Start working on SCAVENGER HUNT – Part I Only  Listen for your name to be called  If you finish, return “Why Study Chemistry?” packet to pile (do NOT hand in Scavenger Hunt packet)

5 Chemistry I Honors– During Registration  Pick up one of each item over on the table (you should have 8 items)  Complete the “Background Check!”  Please answer questions honestly and thoughtfully!  Listen for your name to be called  If you finish, place your completed “Background Check” in Homework Bin on Front Table

9 Things to Do Let’s get organized and set up for the year. 1. Materials needed (EVERY DAY!!!)  3 Ring Binder (at least 1 inch)  Loose leaf paper  Pen (Black or Blue)  Pen (colored for grading)  Pencil  Scientific Calculator (does NOT need to be graphing)  Flash Drive You MUST have materials by Wednesday 9/2

10 Things to Do 2. Getting to Know You  Go to website – password is student id#website  Quizzes Tab on Left  Select your class and then select your quiz  Will be available starting at 5:00PM Tuesday 8/25  Do not wait until Thursday Night! Let me know if having log in issues. Due Friday 8/28

Print and sign Course Expectations  Handout OR Go to websitewebsite  Select Your Class from left tabs  Select “General Course Forms and Resources” on left navigation tool bar  Select and print Course Expectations  Read expectations. You and your parents need to sign both acknowledgement forms.  TEACHER COPY must be handed in to me  STUDENT COPY and full copy of expectations must be kept in front of your notebook ALL year Due BY Friday 8/28

Print and sign Lab Safety Contract  Lab Safety Contracts will be handed out in class OR  Go to websitewebsite  Select your class from left tabs  Select “General Course Forms and Resources” under on left navigation tool bar  Select and print Lab Safety Contract  Read lab safety requirements. You and your parents need to sign 2 Lab Safety Contracts.  Yellow COPY must be handed in to me  Blue/Green COPY must be kept as first page of your lab section in your notebook ALL year  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN LABS UNTIL RECEIVED! Due Friday 8/28

21 Expectations/Goals On loose leaf paper, write the four headers and answer the following four questions (you do NOT have to copy question, but I want at LEAST 3 answers for each question): 1. Student/Class Expectations: What do you expect from other students to make sure our class runs as smoothly as possible and everyone has chance to be successful? (behavior, effort, etc.) 2. Individual Expectations/Goals: What will YOU need to do in order to be successful in chemistry this year? 3. Chemistry Expectations: What do you hope to learn this year in Chemistry? 4. Teacher Expectations: What do you expect from Ms. Lea in order for you to be successful in chemistry class this year? Be thoughtful and realistic.

22 Expectations – Part 2 What is important to others? Which are most important? 1. I will assign you to groups. 2. Discuss your answers to your four questions. 3. Pick your top three for each question and write on a sticky note (Please write question number on sticky note). 4. When done, put your sticky note on appropriate poster. Be thoughtful and realistic.

23 Expectations – Part 3 What is important to others? Which are most important? 1. Walk around and review “sticky notes” for each question. 2. Take one sticky note and add your own personal to one of the posters. Be thoughtful and realistic.
