3 Bridges Grant Guilford ’ s Bridges Program is made possible through a three-year grant from the Maryland Department of Education ’ s 21 st Century Community Learning Center Program No Child Left Behind Dollars Funding goes to MDSDE HCPSS Applies for the 21st CCLC grant Guilford is one of 17 HCPSS schools with Bridges program--looks different at each site.

4 Who Are GES Bridges Students? Last School Year 2nd - 5th Graders 318 students eligible 85 students (Title I Priority List) 27% of the student body –59% male, 41% female 48% African American 20% Hispanic 15% White 14% Declined to Choose –58% FARMS –9% Special Education –15% ELL

5 Year End Report 08-09 Percentage of GES BRIDGES Students Who Scored Proficient or Advanced on MSA 2009, by grade and subject

6 GES Staff Rocks 96% Staff Surveys Returned

7 Bridges to the Daily Classroom Percentage of all BRIDGES students whose classroom behavior improved, declined, did not change, or did not need to improve in the 2008-09 school year.

8 Before & After School Program Daily Schedule Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays Tutoring8:00-9:00 a.m. Breakfast9:00 a.m. School Day9:10 a.m. - 3:50 p.m. HW/Recreation4:00-5:30 p.m

9 Before School Tutoring By Invitation Only (3rd-5th Graders) 8:00-9:00 a.m. Bus Transportation Provided Math/Reading Instruction Daily –Do The Math –FASTT Math (Computer Based) –Vocabulary Breakfast Provided

10 After School Program Open to All Students –125 students (about 70 Bridges students) –Bridges Rate is $40 v. $180 for Non-Bridges –No student denied participation for financial reasons 4:00-5:30 p.m. 45 minutes of Homework 45 minutes of Recreation Snack Provided Bus Transportation Home

12 Help Wanted Morning Tutoring 1-2 Spots Open –Flexible on Grade –Both Math/Vocabulary each day –Must work all three days Afternoon HW/Recreation Help –Flexible on Grade for HW help –Recreation is space dependent –Can pick day(s) of the week

13 Ways you can help Help expedite Bridges paperwork Assign homework; reinforce use of agenda books--HW assignments should be posted in classroom. Invite me to KidTalk when appropriate. Complete any necessary surveys-- typically only one at year end.
