5 Pennsylvania has a humid continental type of climate. Physiographic features have a marked effect on the weather and climate of the various sections within the state Westerly winds carry most of the weather disturbances that affect the state from the interior of the continent, so that the Atlantic Ocean has only limited influence upon the climate of the state. Coastal storms do, at times, affect the daily weather, especially in eastern sections. It is here that storms of tropical origin have the greatest effect within the state, causing floods.
