Power Writing Routine 1 Daily Writing - Days 1 & 6 Purpose: To develop students’ writing fluency; provide an opportunity for students to record their progress in writing fluency. 1.Display a word or picture. 2.Set the timer. 3.Have students write. 4.Check work. 5.Count words. 6.Repeat the procedure. 7.Record the results. 8.Adjust time.

Modeled Writing Routine 2 Daily Writing – Days 3 & 7 Purpose: Model the process of composing to help students learn the writing process; writing strategies and writer’s craft. 1.Develop a RAFT. 2.Model thinking about the first sentence. 3.Write the first sentence. 4.Continue thinking aloud as you write. 5.Involve students. 6.Add a title.

6. Interactive Writing Routine 3 Daily Writing – Day 5 Purpose: Scaffold students to turn collaborative oral composition into written form. 1.Establish a purpose. 2.Talk through the text. 3.Problem solving. 4.Reread frequently.
