Our ELA (English/Language Arts) curriculum has been redesigned to align with the Illinois State Standards (which were adopted from Common Core State Standards). What this means for your child is that he/she will be exposed to more grade level text, especially informational text, and have opportunities to read “closely” (reread for a specific purpose or to find text evidence) so they can gain deeper understandings to text. Guided reading at your child’s instructional level will still take place during the “language arts” block.
