Teen Living Objective 11.02

 Before buying a new garment try it on to judge fit and appearance

 One of the most important things to do when trying on a garment is to stretch, sit down, and bend over while wearing the garment

 Durability of a garment is determined by the quality of construction and fabric used

 Natural – made from plants or animals  Man-made - created by using chemicals in a laboratory  Blends - mixing different types of fibers together, often combining natural & man-made into one fabric

 Fiber from plant and animal sources: cotton silk wool

 Silk fibers are produced by a worm!

 Wool is sheared from a sheep & spun into fibers

 Cotton comes from the cotton plant

 In general, synthetic fibers are created by forcing fiber forming chemicals through holes into the air, forming a thread.  Nylon  Polyester  Rayon  Acrylic

 Blended fiber - two or more different types of staple fibers are twisted or spun together to form the yarn for the fabric
