2 Wartime destruction left cities crumbling throughout Japan. With the end of the war came the need to rebulild. In 1945, Japan accept foreign occupation. They put western ideas and technology to their own use, and soon Japan emerged as an economic superpower

3 Japan’s recovery and Strong economy With help from the United States, japan rebounded quickly and its economy became one of the fastest- growing after war. In 1949, Japan became a powerhouse in manufacturing, trade, and modern transportation

4 By the 1970’s, Japan was a leader in the manufacture of electronics and its brands dominated the market of TVs and stereos, and also Japan’s auto industry was producing good quality cars.

5 Since 1990, however the Japanese economy has slowed. Corporations are not investing as much and also prices keep falling.

6 Tension Between India and Pakistan India won its independence in 1947. It was divided in two: The Hindu India The Muslim Pakistan

7 India and Pakistan have fought 3 major wars in 1947, 1965, and 1971. These conflicts centered on Kashmir, a mostly Muslim area in the northern indian subcontinent that is claimed by both India and Pakistan

8 The prospect of war between these two longtime rival countries grew more dangerous when both succesfully tested nuclear bombs in 1998.

9 China’s move toward an Open economy In 1949, the country became a one-party dictatorship on the model of the Soviet Union. Chinese communists built up a strong base of heavy industry and,military power.

10 China succesfully tested its first atomic bomb in the year of 1997.

11 By the 1970s, China’s economy was stalled. In 1979, China and US established formal diplomatic relationships. China open its economy to a greater outside investment from private corporations. This process speed up China’s development, and has been one of the fastest.growing economies.
