2. Windows 7 is an operating system. The main screen is called the Windows Desktop

3. Start Menu As soon as you start typing in the Search bar of the Start Menu, you will instantly search the entire computer for a list of all possible options. This quickest way to find programs, documents, music, pictures, and emails you are looking for.

4. Taskbar features When multiple windows are open in a program, the icon will look "stacked" on the taskbar. If you wish, you can change the order of the icons by clicking and dragging the icon to whatever space you desire on the taskbar.

5. Pin a program to the taskbar To Unpin a program, simply right-click on the icon and select Unpin. To Pin a program, drag it to the taskbar and release. Access a Jump List A Jump List is like a mini-menu for a program. It allows quick access to recent files and frequently used commands. Right-click an icon to open the program's Jump List.

6. 1.Place the mouse at the top of the window, drag to the left or right of the screen, wait for the transparent window to appear, and let go. 2.Your window should Snap into place. 3.To return to the full view, Snap the window to the top of the screen. 7. Shake When your desktop is cluttered with open windows, you can use Shake to select a single window and close the rest. 1.Click on the top of the window you want to focus on and shake your mouse, and the rest of the windows will disappear. 2.Simply shake the window again, and the closed windows will reappear. 8. Show desktop. Clicking the Show Desktop button to the right of the clock and date will minimize all of your windows at once. Click again, and the windows will return.

9. Windows Explorer Understanding Windows Explorer will help you navigate through your content and work with your files and folders in an easy manner. Click the folder icon on the taskbar to open Windows Explorer. To use Windows Explorer: Move through your content by double-clicking folders, clicking on the Back and Forward buttons, or by clicking on headings in the Address bar. Notice the location of your C:, S: and N: When you double-click a file, it will open in the default program.

10. Working with Folders and Files You can use organize your files and folders in Windows Explorer. It is possible to make new folders, rename your folders, cut and paste them into other locations and delete them. A new folder can be added by choosing the command in the menu/ Right-clicking on the folder will open a jump list with the most common commands. This is where you can delete or rename folders and files, and send them to the desktop as a shortcut

11. Challenge 1: Working With Windows Open several windows (doesn’t matter which ones) and practice the show desktop, snap, and shake features. Search for Microsoft Word 2010 in the Start menu and pin it to the taskbar Open Windows Explorer From Windows Explorer find your N: and open it. Create a new folder in your N: and rename it TSDE Classwork Send your TSDE Classwork folder to the desktop as a “shortcut” (hint do NOT click and drag as this will only make a copy, not a shortcut) When you are finished, raise your hand to get credit for completion.
