“The Incredible Power Inside You” Lesson 6.15 Created By: Pam Gunter

 Materials Needed:  Blackboard or whiteboard.  Paper and pencil for each student.  Classroom Setup:  Sit at desks or a table.

 Often times we don’t know or recognize the power that we truly carry within us.  Our power, our influence and our example affects everyone around us. At times, be far reaching and extend beyond our family, our school, or even our community.  Divide the board in half. On the left, write down the student’s ideas of who has affected the world. On the right, write down their positive characteristics.  Who are some people that have affected the world for good? What qualities did they, or do they currently possess?

 Have the students divide their paper in half, by drawing a line down the middle.  After dividing the paper in half, ask the students to reflect back on the life skills they’ve been taught over the past several weeks.  Have them select three life skills that they believe they either currently possess, or desire to work on that will make them a better person. Have them write those life skills on the left side of the paper.  Now, have them look at those three life skills, and on the right, write down how that skill is going to help make this world a better place to live. Have them evaluate who it will affect for good, (i.e. friends, family, the community, etc.)  When they are finished, have them write a commitment statement to themselves which will support their dreams, goals and aspirations. Such as, “I promise that I will continue to use my personal power to achieve my goals, desires and dreams so I will be a better and stronger person, being a great example to others at all times.

Points instructor needs to bring out:  Use the power within you to achieve your goals.  Everyone has different strengths, talents, skills and gifts. Use them to make a positive impact in the classroom, with friends, in the school, in your homes, in your communities.  Life skills are much like developing math, reading and writing skills. If you don’t use them, you will lose them. Keep practicing and developing your skills for life!  If you need support from your mentor, share with them what your goals are and get their help along the way.
