Upsilon Xi Alumni Association 2005 Annual Review & Analysis Presented by UXAA President Joseph Giove at the Upsilon Xi Alumni Breakfast November 5, 2005

The UXAA Mission statement The Upsilon Xi Alumni Association exists to glorify God by fostering a cooperative and closer relationship among its members, looking after their common interest and welfare, the initiation of educational, research, and other programs for the benefit of its members, and to initiate and undertake fund raising and other philanthropic activities for the benefit of Lee University, Upsilon Xi, the Alumni Association, and any other brothers who have a need.

UXAA Accomplishments 2002-2005 President: Joseph Giove Vice-President: Bill Winters Secretary: Bill George Treasurer: Nick Humble

Mace Project (status: COMPLETED - May 2003) November 9, 2002 - Initial idea for a ceremonial mace was suggested to the club by Bill George at Homecoming 2002. The “50 Friends” campaign was announced to raise money for the mace. December 19, 2002 - The Upsilon Xi Website was enhanced to allow donations to be made to Upsilon via credit card. This enhancement will not only benefit the 50 Friends campaign, but will also make it easier to make future contributions. March/April 2003 – Nick Humble reported that we had raised enough money to purchase the mace. March 2003 – Bill George met with Dr. Conn and finalized the design of the mace. April 2003 – Bill George put in the final order for the mace. Early May 2003 – The Mace arrived and was presented to Lee University as a gift of the members and alumni of Upsilon Xi. May 19, 2003 - The Mace was officially used for the first time in a Lee University graduation ceremony. It was carried by Upsilon alumnus, Dr. Mark Wickam.

Redesign the Upsilon Xi Website (status: COMPLETED - July 2003) March/April 2003 – Began looking at possible designs that would be both professional and functional. Mid-May 2003 -Settled on a template and began drawings and special schemes that would support the rollout of the new design. Early June 2003 – Began work on the new images and graphical design elements that would make up the new website. Early June 2003 – Upgraded software systems and began coding the new website using Microsoft Frontpage. Most pages were redesigned at the same time as the graphics work was being done. Mid-June 2003 – Teamed with Wayne Slocumb to do more graphics work. Wayne designed elements to go on the secondary pages and provided excellent code and high quality designs. Late-June 2003 – Began uploading the new pages to the website and beta-testing the new pages. Beta-testing took about three weeks. July 2003 – Launched the new Upsilon Xi Website

Alumni Directory & Database (status: COMPLETED - November 2003) April 6, 2003 - Met with Bill George in Washington DC and discussed my idea for the creation of a database that could be used to network members and alumni of Upsilon Xi. May 2003 – Formally announced the creation of this database in an article entitled, “Lessons from a Secret Society,” which was printed in the Black & Gray Newsletter. June 2003 – Contacted Kevin Brooks in the Lee University Alumni Office to see how we might be able to partner with Lee in this effort. July 2003 - Launched an e-mail/website effort to gather data and continued work for the next few months... I asked Wayne Slocumb to start thinking of ideas for the design to give him plenty of time to come up with something significant. September 2003 - Bill George and Kevin Brooks organized a "phonecall session" through President Jonny Moore and Alumni Coordinator B.J. Johnson. October 2003 - After working on the database for several months, the final copy of the database was e-mailed to Bill George for additional work. November 2003 - The final copy was given to Wayne Slocumb for final manipulation and editing. Wayne worked tirelessly to make everything look professional and classy. November 8, 2003 - The first ever Upsilon Xi Alumni Directory was handed out at the Alumni Breakfast to all alumni who have paid their dues. The directory will also be available by mail to those who send in a dues payment.

Create an Online Archive of Black & Gray Newsletters (status: COMPLETED - July 2003) March 2003 – Met separately with Upsilon alumni Dr. Doug Morris and Wayne Slocumb to seek counsel and help in how to proceed with this project. Their advice and help was appreciated and followed April/May 2003 – Began scanning the Black & Grays into an Adobe Acrobat format. June 2003 – Placed them on a special website which will not be accessible until the redesign is complete. The archive will launch at the same time as the new website. July 2003 - The first ever Black & Gray archive is fully functional.
