Activity Look at examples of childrens writing and agree the level at which they are working for AF3 and AF4 Discuss the next steps to enable these children to make progress in writing For one child track this through the objectives to steps in learning (Support for Writing). What would be the focus for a guided writing session for this pupil in order to move them on in AF3 and AF4.

Independence and choice Pupils independently use and apply learning across contexts. All pupils have an appetite for learning: they independently identify and take their next steps in learning to make good progress. What do we understand by independence?

Independence and choice The main writing session was observed by an HMI inspector and judged as outstanding due to a number of factors, which included the element of pupil choice. Y6 Example

Independence and choice AFs 1 and 2 are fundamental to all kinds of writing. It is important to give pupils space and time to follow their own ideas, encouraging alternatives and open- ended approaches to promote the excitement of writing What opportunities do you give pupils to make choices about their writing?

Why am I writing this? (purpose) Who am I writing this for? (audience) So what style do I need to write in? So what sort of writing will suit this purpose? (form)
