1 Using Your Email RSD STUDENT EMAIL 2014-15

2 First Step: Change your password At the computer:  Log in like you usually do  Then, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete

3 Change your password  Select “Change a password”  Type in: N ms 110703 * Notice the capital letter in N ms * The numbers are your 6 digit birthday ( month + day + year )  When done, log off and return to the tables

4 School Email Expectations  For school and educational use only  Email messages will be monitored  Don’t write anything you wouldn’t say in public

5 Email Etiquette  Keep the subject line brief and relevant  Take the time to review your message before sending  It’s a good idea to read message aloud before sending to make sure it makes senses and lacks errors

6 Spelling!  Check your spelling before sending the message  Office 365 (what you’re logging into for your email) has other online programs you can access, including Word. You can type and spell check your message in Word and then copy and paste it into your email

7 What do the buttons mean?  To: These are the people you are directly talking to  Reply: This will return an email to just the person who emailed you

8 Write this down in a safe place, such as a Word document saved in your folder  Website-  Username-  Email address-  Password-

9 Website * also available from library home page*  Using a web browser navigate to:  https://login.microsoftonline.com https://login.microsoftonline.com

10 Username It is the same username used when logging into a computer---with @student s.rentonschool s.us added (last name. first initial + school ID number) For example: John Smith #123456 will login as smith.j123456@students.rentonschools.us

11 Password  It is the same password used when logging into a computer  Remember, you just changed yours example: N ms 110703

13 Start Page Click on Outlook to go to your email

14 Set Language and Time Zone This only needs to be done once

15 English (United States) (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time(US & Canada) Click Save

16 Finding your email address Click on the arrow next to your name to find your actual email address

17 Sending an Email  Make sure Outlook is selected  Click new mail in the upper left

18 Use Your Email!  Sent an email to your teacher  Put your class period in the subject line

19 Add to Your Contacts  Add your teacher to your contacts  Click People  Follow the prompts to add to your contacts  Don’t forget to save

20 Reminders:  What do the Buttons mean? (To, Subject, Reply)  What should the email be used for? This is a school assigned email and should be used for educational and professional communication. Email is not private. Emails will be monitored and can be used as evidence in the case of bullying or inappropriate behavior. Also, as with all electronic content, once it is available outside of your computer it can be hacked or mistakenly re-routed to someone you may not have intended to receive it. _________________@students.rentonschools.us_________________@students.rentonschools.us is an email associated with the Renton School District, so please be professional.
