As in..”Its raining cats and dogs “ This doesn’t mean that cats and dogs are falling from the sky but it is a metaphorical expression that means that it is raining heavily.

Apple of (someone’s) eye: something or someone that one likes a lot. Eg: He is the apple of his mother’s eye. As black as a skillet: Very black Eg:The little boy’s feet are as black as a skillet.

As cool as a cucumber: To be calm, to be not nervous Eg:John is as cool as a cucumber and never worries about anything. As hungry as a bear: Very hungry. Eg:I was as hungry as a bear when I returned home from work.
