2 General Info 1920’s German Pottery Pottery was based on cobalt colored decoration for useful bowls, mugs, and cups Started in Rhineland Germany (Central Europe)

3 Techniques and Characteristics Most of the pieces were formed on the wheel, slip casting and hand building The blue designs are hand brushed on or carved in Salt is put into the kiln above 2000 degrees Forms a sodium vapor that sticks to the clay and gives a glass coating on the pottery Makes every piece unique Pieces are small and useful as mugs or bowls

4 My Piece I chose this because I liked the plain blue accented design on the simple pieces I made a pinch tea cup that I formed to create a curved lip and a plain handle I plan on glazing it with only dark blue and white to make it look salt glazed My cup is not salt fired but it will look like it was
