2. OA History G The Order of the Arrow is Scouting’s national honor society. G OA has been around since 1915 and exists to serve the local council. Members of the OA are referred to as “Arrowmen,” and their main duty is to serve their unit. 3. Benefits to Scouts G OA is a way for peers to recognize Scouts who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. G Scouts have a chance to sharpen their leadership skills by leading others at a local, council or national level, by planning and promoting events, by communicating, and by attending leadership programs. G Scout may actively participate with his troop or team for a longer period of time if he is active in the OA. G Order of the Arrow operates three great high-adventure programs—Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier, and the Florida Sea Base. The Kola Lodge in Action G Earned Quality Lodge for 2008 for the first time in 7 years G Presented 8 Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, including 6 gold-level awards, one bronze-level award, and one "Call to Service" lifetime achievement award. G Took the second largest contingent to the ArrowCorps5 Manti-La Sal project G Presented two James E.
