7 th B2GM SVD Summary 19 November 2010 Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)

Agenda 19 November 2010Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)2 SVD Summary Please look at slides for details.

7 th BG2M SVD Mechanics 18 November 2010 Immanuel Gfall (HEPHY Vienna)

Service Ways 18 November 2010Immanuel Gfall (HEPHY Vienna)4 Ribbon Cables CAD study to show if service space is available Almost straight cable paths are possible Study shows that there is still space left SVD Mechanics

Support Assembly Built around beam pipe SVD support structure is split into halves Beam mask needs to be split as well 18 November 2010Immanuel Gfall (HEPHY Vienna)5 Beam Mask End Rings Support Cone Patch Panel Space SVD Mechanics

Cooling: CO 2 Blow System 18 November 2010Immanuel Gfall (HEPHY Vienna)6 T= 23°C P=57bar T> -20°C P=57bar T= -20°C P=20bar SVD Mechanics

SVD Readout Electronics Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)

Location of FADCs & Power Supplies At side of KLM Accessible during running Alternatively on top of KLM (but then locked) Ideally here 1 rack on each side (forward, backward) + power supplies 18 November 2010Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)8

Gamma Irradiation (3-5 October 2010) SCK-CEN @ Mol (Belgium) 1.25MCi (all rods) 60 Co source (  ) under water 3.4 MRad (water) per hour at peak position Performed in the middle of beam test @ SPS (CERN) 18 November 2010Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)9 SVD Readout Electronics

Irradiation Summary w.r.t. Electronics Voltage Regulator (LHC4913) –Literature says it withstands 100MRad, confirmed to 70MRad –Perfectly fits our needs Humidity Sensor (SHT21)  –Not radiation hard –Radiation tolerant sensors used in LHC are not available anymore (company disappeared) –CERN people try different concept with cooled mirror (condensation) and reflectivity measurement –I am afraid this will not be too bulky to install in Belle II SVD –Presently, I can only think of humidity measurements outside the radiation area (=dry air blown in and sucked out of SVD volume) 18 November 2010Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)11 SVD Readout Electronics

SVD: Straight vs. Slanted Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)

Items from Ushiroda-san’s List Performance –See next presentation by Zbynek Cost –Barrel needs +31 sensors (  +150k€), +310 APV25 chips & additional FADCs (  +150k€), FTBs, Copper boards,… –Total  +400k€ Service Space, Mechanical Feasibility –No problem (see Immanuel‘s talk on mechanics) Beam Masks –Not affected at important location (close to IP) 18 November 2010Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)28 SVD: Straight vs. Slanted

How to Proceed? 1. Let’s see Zbynek’s results 2. Let’s start discussion Decision may be deferred to Cracow meeting (13/14 December 2010) There was a discussion including tracking & alignment. Then the decision was taken in favor of slanted option. 18 November 2010Markus Friedl (HEPHY Vienna)29
