9 © Services GmbH Question 1 Why scientists need project managers (research facilitators) while writing RTD proposals? Sub-question: what distinguishes a project proposal and a research paper? Significant volume of required non-scientific information Embedded PM knowledge and skills MAIN: the purpose

10 © Services GmbH Answer 1 RTD project proposal is not a research publication, but rather a selling paper written to compete for money

11 © Services GmbH Question 2 What is proposal writing? An effort to produce a document capable of successful competition for RTD funding (what makes it competitive?) In accordance with requirements of the funding agency (the EC) Within a very strict timeframe (deadline is deadline…) With certain and limited resources (capable people, money,…) Writing a project proposal is a project in its own right!!!
