1 EXETER TOWNSHIP JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY INTRODUCTION TO FOLLETT DESTINY ELECTRONIC CATALOG Presented by Don Reinert, Librarian

2 Let’s begin The first thing you need to do is to sign in on whatever computer you are using in the building This will return your student profile page.

3 Next step – you will see your profile page Your student page will not look like this, but on the left margin you will have a Destiny Icon. Click on this icon

4 This is the opening screen for ETSD Libraries Choose the Junior High Library

5 This is the opening page for the JHS Library Click on the “catalog button to move to the catalog We will discuss this part of the page later.

6 This is the basic search page for the library TYPE IN WHAT YOU WANT TO SEARCH After typing your search word, you can select to search by keyword, title, author, topic, and series.

7 Searching Explanations KEYWORD – type in a main word that you know is in the title --- Example: “prisoner” for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban --- You will get a list of any materials that have “prisoner” in the title or subject TITLE – type in the title of the book ---Example: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ---You will get a list of any materials with that exact title AUTHOR – type in the author’s last name, first name ---Example: Rowling, J.K. ---You will get a list of all materials by that author SUBJECT –type in the subject of your search ---Example – wizards ---You will get a list of all materials that have “wizards” in their topic records SERIES – type in the name of a series ---Example: Harry Potter ---You will get a list of all materials in the Harry Potter series Suggestion: Use the * at the end of a word if you do not know the correct spelling or want any words related to that word.

8 After doing the search the results will be ordered as follows 1. All results will be listed in the following order. – Non Fiction – Biography – Fiction 2. Within each grouping the books will be listed in standard Dewey order.Dewey order

9 Navigation Tip – Do not use the “back” button; use the “breadcrumbs” to move back Breadcrumbs

10 What a resulting search page will look like and what it will tell you What you searched for Title Call Number Author AR Level Library Availability If you need more information about the book, click the details button

11 This is the “details” page - part #1 Here you will find a short description of the book. For a more comprehensive description of the book click on “TitlePeek” Other topics you can explore

12 This is the “details page” – part #2 About half way down the page you will see AR information for this book Format will tell you the number of pages in the book

14 To change the basic search page to an Accelerated Reader search page click the “show more button”

15 This is the basic search page for Accelerated Reader Click the drop box next to Reading Program

16 From this page you will select your reading level and search option This reading level will be given to you by your teacher *** TIP: do not make this range too large *** If you want to select all the book within your reading level - press “title” You may also use all the search options instead of “title”

18 This is an example of a “Title” search Suggestion: Click on “show all” to put all results on one page Scroll down the list to find a selection

19 After making a selection or selections be sure you record the call numbers 1. Use the cards and pencils located by the computers to write down the call number or numbers. 2. Look for the book or books and take them to be checked out. 3. If you are having a problem finding a book see Mr. Reinert or Mrs. Gehring.

20 Final Reminders for AR Students 1. Be sure your book is an AR book within your reading level. 2. Take a few minutes to look over the book and be sure it is a book you will enjoy. 3. Be sure you have the book approved by your reading teacher before you check it out. 4. Enjoy the reading adventure!

21 Destiny at home One of the most important features of the Destiny program is the ability to use if from home. This allows you to search at home when you have more time or with your parent’s help. You can also plan ahead with books you would like to read in the future.

22 Step #1 – Go to the ETSD District Page @www.exeter.k12.pa.us Look for shortcuts

23 Step #2 – Under shortcuts click on the District Card Catalog Click here

24 Step #3 – You will see all the district library catalogs As you did in the beginning of this program, you will choose the EJHS library You will then be able to work with the library catalog just as you do from school
