4 Types of Projects Infrastructure $25,000 to $250,000 per jurisdiction per funding cycle Sidewalks Crosswalks Traffic signals and flashing beacons Pedestrian bridges Traffic calming -- speed tables, speed humps Must be within 2 miles of school building 4

5 Types of Projects Noninfrastructure $3,500 to $250,000 per jurisdiction per funding cycle SRTS activities Education and encouragement programs and incentives I-WALK project SRTS program coordinator salary SRTS plan development City, school district, county, or regional level Consultant services 5

6 Funding Application 3 types – Infrastructure, Noninfrastructure activities, Studies or Plans Infrastructure applicant must be a city or county government (not a school) Organize partnerships early to determine problem areas and consider possible solutions Applications due October 1 Read instructions before filling out an application 6

7 Application Scoring 60 points for general items Problem, studies/plans completed, need, education and encouragement activities, partnerships, evaluation, cost/benefit 40 points for safety Existing and future safety conditions, posted speed limit, traffic counts, existing and future usage, socio-economic factors 5 extra points for Iowa Great Place designation 7

8 Timeline October 1 – Applications due October and November – Applications reviewed by scoring committee January – Projects approved by Transportation Commission Following October – Funding available Following Spring/Summer – Construct project Takes at least 18 months from application submittal until construction starts 8
