4 Purpose of Advisory:  I am the first person your student sees in the morning.  I am your advocate.  If I don’t know something is going on I can’t help.  Please keep me informed.

7 Need to Know!  The first day of school is Wednesday, September 9 th  School hours are 9:20 AM to 3:50 PM  Students may arrive on campus at 8:50 AM, doors for breakfast open at 9:00

8 Need to Know!  If a student is involved in extra curricular activities, they should be picked up by 5:45 PM.  If they are not, they should walk or ride the bus home and be off campus by 4:05 PM.

10 Literacy Focus  All teachers teach reading!  We work intentionally to build reading strategies and teach vocabulary

11 Literacy Focus To Support Our Readers We Have:  School wide incentives and challenges  Summer Reading and Library Activities

12 Literacy Focus  As an advisory, we will be challenging ourselves to read.  I expect your student to bring a book everyday to advisory.  Your student needs to read 30 minutes EVERY DAY! Even on the weekend

16 The Student Planner  Every Student, Every Box, Every Day  Look for the essential question (EQ) and/or homework (HW) for each day, in each class

17 Skyward Family Access  Every Nisqually student has a Skyward Family Access login.  Use this login to check grades and keep on top of your student’s assignments.

24 Signing Up Continued... 4. Registrar Sends and Email Confirmation and Link. 5. Follow the Link and Create Your Family Access Account. 6. The Registrar will Send You a Password. 7. Students will have a Separate Password to their Account.

25 How Can Families Get Involved? FANSS (Families & Nisqually Students & Staff)  Purpose- To Increase the Connections between School and Families  Not a PTA  We Problem Solve Around School Issues and Provide Input to School Leadership  Conferencing  Grading and Family Access  Activities and Events  Social Emotional Issues

26 General School Policies Sports Eligibility—  A student must be in attendance during the school day to be eligible to participate in activities, sports practices or games.  Student athletes must also be in good academic standing and on Honor Level 1 or 2.

27 General School Policies Bikes & Boards— Students riding bicycles, skateboards, etc. to school are required to park and secure them before the first bell. Bikes and boards are not to be ridden on campus.

28 General School Policies Dress Code— Hats not allowed, shorts, skirts, and dresses must meet guidelines of the fingertip rule, shirts that promote or depict drugs, alcohol, or violence are not allowed.

29 General School Policies NMS Electronics Policy—  “Off and Away, All Day”  except at the discretion of teachers who have agreed to the monitoring policy for students who are cleared with a special mark on their school ID.

30 Conferences  Some changes…  In the Fall - Arena  You get to check in with teachers.  More details to come!  In the Spring – Student Led Conference  Focus on high school

31 Email  Please check your email address on Family Access.  Make sure it is the email address that you check regularly.  If you need to make changes, check in with the front office.

32  First Day of School September 9 th  7 th /8 th Grade Fall Sports Begin Sept. 14 th ALL SPORTS FEES MUST BE PAID BY 9/11 IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FALL SEASON  Picture Day- Sept. 18th  Open House/Family Information Night - September 24 th  FANSS Meeting - Oct. 5th
