1 2 nd – 6 th Rockstars March 17 - 21 Weekly Reminders 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be reading the book that aligns with our upcoming KY Horse Park trip, “Perfect Timing.” 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to identify elements of poetry, prose, and drama. Such as, text structure, stanza, and much more!!! Welcome student teachers from WKU, Hilary Rickard (Mrs. Linder), Anne Bunch (Mrs. Rogers), and Laura Beth Ferguson (Mrs. Wells) to our school family. College Visits - Tuesday, March 18 th Penny Wars – March 24 th thru 28 th Rockin’ America School wide Presentation Thursday, March 27 th at 6 p.m. Crowder & Rogers Lock-In & KY Horse Park Trip Thursday Night March 27 th & Friday, March 28 th 2nd Grade Math - My second graders will be adding and subtracting numbers mentally with and without regrouping, rounding numbers, and problem-solving. Please continue to memorize multiplication facts. 3rd Grade Math - My third graders will be adding and subtracting money and problem-solving. We will also continue to work on multiplication and division. Please continue to memorize multiplication facts. 2nd Grade Social Studies - My 2nd grade class will be studying about immigration and citizenship. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd grade class will be having lots of fun studying about the life of the Vikings. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying about the Civil War and the life of a soldier during this war. 2nd Grade Literacy *I can sequence a story by using temporal words to put events in order. *I can recognize that important details are essential facts found in nonfiction text. *I can understand how to identify important details quickly. *I can develop vocabulary to use when reading, writing, and speaking. 3rd Grade Literacy *I can determine if a sentence is a fact or opinion based upon if it can proven true or false. *I can use background knowledge and clues from the story to make inferences. *I can develop vocabulary to use when reading, writing, and speaking. 2nd Grade Science *I can explain which parts help plants grow. *I can explain which body parts help animals survive. 3rd Grade Science *I can explain how electrical energy is made and moved. *I can describe how electrical energy does useful work.

2 Bowen *In language we will continue our study of legends and perhaps find a leprechaun along the way! *Our Science/math classes are enhancing our calculator skills and dissecting word problems! **Please cheer on our two academic team members who advanced to the region on Saturday, March 22nd.** Layne Goodman will advance in Science testing and Sydney Ballard will advance in Written Composition! Let's wish these ladies good luck! Math - this week we will begin our unit study on decimals! We will be specifically learning about place value, changing mixed numbers to decimals and changing improper fractions to decimals! Science - This week in science we will be studying the phases of the moon. We will also learn about the relationship between our Earth and the sun and moon! Writer's Workshop 6th Writer's Workshop: We will finish our research on our Argumentative Paper and then begin to write our finished copy. 5th Writer's Workshop: Our Opinion Papers will be finished this week. After a couple weeks of pre- writing, our first draft and final copy should be a breeze. Daily 5 Our concept skill of the week is "Symbolism". We will be using fairy tales to help illustrate and learn this concept. We will continue partnering with our Kindergarten Buddies to put some finishing touches on our Picture Storybook. Rock on! Linder 5th grade Math I can estimate decimal sums, differences, products, and quotients. I can solve real world problems involving decimals. I can read and plot points on a coordinate grid. I can graph an equation. 5th grade Social Studies I can describe rights protected under the Bill of Rights. I can define manifest destiny. I can describe how the United States acquired territory. Well, maybe we are past missing class for snow. This week we will finally finish Ch 9. We have some graphing problems to finish and then to review. We will be taking our test on Friday. Remember to review Thursday night in order to be prepared. I would like to welcome our student teacher, Ms. Hilary Rickard. We are excited for her to join our family and fun.
