3 Gandhi’s Influence Kwame Nkrumah studied nonviolent methods of Gandhi When he returned to the Gold Coast, he organized boycotts and strikes to battle the British. He was imprisoned when actions led to riots

4 Independence March 6, 1957, Gold Coast won its independence After his release from prison, Kwame Nkrumah, became prime minister and rename the country Ghana, after the ancient West African Empire.

5 OAU In 1963, Nkrumah created the Organization of African Unity or OAU This group promoted Pan-Africanism and the end of colonialism in Africa
