2 Anatomy  Extensor pollicis brevis  Abductor pollicis longus

3 Mechanism of Injury  The cause of DeQuervain’s disease remains idiopathic (arising spontaneously or from an obscure or unknown cause).

4 Symptoms  Pain, tenderness, and swelling over thumb side of the wrist  Difficulty gripping  Finkelstien’s test

5 Treatment  Surgery  Palliative treatments include a splint to immobilize wrist and thumb to the interphalangeal joint  Anti-inflammatory medication

6 Recovery  Physical therapy focuses on lifting mechanics  Sometimes prescribes splint
