AT-SAT u AT-SAT is a computer-based examination that assesses if job applicants have certain characteristics needed to perform effectively as ATC’s

Some of the abilities and characteristics assessed by AT-SAT include: u Prioritization u Tolerance for High Intensity u Composure u Planning u Execution u Thinking Ahead u Taking Charge u Reasoning u Decisiveness u Problem Solving u Visualization u Working Cooperatively u Numeric Ability u Working with Angles u Movement Detection

AT-SAT u The total maximum time to take AT-SAT is 8 hours. u Included in this testing time are two scheduled 15 minute rest breaks and a maximum 45 minute lunch break.

Scan Dial Reading Angles Applied Math EQ Analogies Letter Factory AT Scenario

Scan u Multiple blocks of data appear at random on the computer screen. u The numbers that appear in the data blocks will be either inside or outside a specific range displayed at the bottom of the computer screen. u Scoring of the test is based on how quickly and accurately candidates can identify data blocks with numbers outside the specified range.

Type the identification numbers contained in the data block with lower line numbers falling beyond the range (360-710): P45 580 T65 120 C20 390

Type the identification numbers contained in the data block with lower line numbers falling beyond the range (360-710): P45 580 T65 120 C20 390

Dial Reading u ATC’s must be able to perceive visual information quickly and accurately. u ATC’s must be able to perform processing tasks like comparisons. u The Dial Reading test assesses the ability to read dials quickly and accurately.

Temp. 1) 22 2) 24 3) 28 4) 30 5) 45

Angles u ATC’s must recognize angles and perform calculations on those angles. u The Angles test measures the ability to perform these tasks. u During the test, the computer will show the number of questions and the minutes remaining on the bottom line of the screen.

This test includes two different types of questions: The first presents a picture of an angle and asks you the measure of that angle in degrees (From 1 to 360). What is the measure of this angle? 2) 10°1) 90°3) 125°4) 190°

This test includes two different types of questions: The second provides you with the measure of an angle (from 1 to 360 degrees). It then asks you to select an angle that represents that measure. Which of the following represents a 10 degree angle? 1) 2) 3) 4)

Applied Math u This test consists of word math problems with four possible answers for each problem. u All of the questions involve calculating time, distance, or speed based on information given in the problem. u All problems involve the movement of aircraft. u Scoring of the test is based on the number of problems answered correctly.

An aircraft has flown 375 miles in 90 minutes. What is the aircraft’s ground speed? A. 150 kts B. 200 kts C. 250 kts D. 300 kts

The distance from point A to point B is 560 miles. If the aircraft left point A at 8:00 “Zulu”, and flew at 400 kts, what time would the aircraft cross point B? A. 8:56 B. 9:02 C. 9:24 D. 10:02

Experience Questionnaire u ATC’s possess certain work-related attributes to perform their job well. u The Experience Questionnaire determines whether candidates have these attributes by asking about past experience. u There are no correct or incorrect answers. u People respond differently based on what is true for them.

1- Definitely True 2- Somewhat True 3- Neither True nor False 4- Somewhat False 5- Definitely False You freeze and don’t know what to do when in a stressful situation.

You sometimes second guess your decisions. 1- Definitely True 2- Somewhat True 3- Neither True nor False 4- Somewhat False 5- Definitely False

Analogies u ATC’s must solve reasoning problems by knowing which rules apply to a situation and then applying those rules. u The Analogies Test measures reasoning ability in applying correct rules to solve the problem. u The test consists of both word and visual items.

Letter Factory u This test measures the ability to: l Plan and decide what action to take in a given situation. l Think ahead to avoid problems before they occur. Maintain awareness of the work setting.

Letter Factory u Candidates are asked to: l Move empty boxes from the storage area to the loading area l Order new boxes when supplies are low l Call Quality Control when defective letters appear. u Candidates are asked to answer multiple choice questions about the letter factory display.

Air Traffic Scenarios u This test simulates air traffic situations and measures the ability to safely and efficiently guide airplanes. u The test uses simple rules and does not require that candidates have knowledge of air traffic control. u Candidates are presented with simulated air traffic situations.

Air Traffic Scenarios u Aircraft appear on the screen and must be routed to an appropriate exit or airport. u Scoring of the test is based on how quickly and accurately the aircraft are directed to their destinations. u There are practice and graded scenarios of different lengths and numbers of aircraft. u All inputs to the computer are by mouse.
