2 Chapter 12 Sleeping Areas Types of Sleeping Areas Bedrooms Average size – 100 to 200 square feet 3 items must accommodate a minimum size bedroom –Single Bed (Must have 48” of space on one side for cleaning / must have 22” on all sides for entering bed) –Bedside table / Nightstand –Dresser

3 Doors must be 2’-8” to allow passage of furniture Closets –Should have 6 feet of hanging room per person –48” of clearance in front of closet is needed for hanging and dressing Windows –Double glazed windows or insulating windows should be used to reduce noise –Cross ventilation should be used to vent a room if air conditioning is not available –Ribbon windows provides privacy and allowing space underneath for furniture

4 Bathrooms Compartment bath Usually divided by partitions Open Plan Bath that all fixtures are visible

5 Full Bath Must have 3 basic fixtures –Water Closet / Toilet 2 TYPES ONE PIECE TWO PIECE Minimum clearance from the center of the water closet to another fixture, wall or cabinet is 15” (For a wheelchair – 30”) Clearance from the end of the water closet should not be less than 24”

7 Sizes and dimensions Minimum size full bathroom 5’x8’ (40 square feet) Comfortable sink height is 34” to 36” Vanity depth should be 20” to 24”
