6 Podcasting involves a set of rules known as RSS (Really Simple Syndication). RSS allows podcast content to be syndicated instantly on the Web. In 2004, the RSS format was combined with aggregator software to check RSS-enabled web pages for new audio content (Podcasts) and keep users up to date on content. Users had the option to have that content delivered directly to their home computers, and ultimately, their digital media device or MP3 player. 8 When you subscribe, iTunes automatically downloads the latest episode. In iTunes, click the Subscribe button on the Details page of the podcast.

12 After iTunes is downloaded... 1.Launch iTunes and click the iTunes Store in the Source Panel. 2.Click Podcasts in the iTunes Store panel. 3.Note that there are podcasts in many genres and subject areas. 4.Select Education in the Categories panel. 5.Let’s narrow the category--K-12. 6.New and Notable Podcasts 1.Today’s Top Podcasts and Featured Podcasts. 7.Listing of episodes. 13 1.When you subscribe, iTunes automatically downloads the latest episode. 2.iTunes begins to down load the latest episode of the podcast you just subscribed to. 3.Click Podcasts in the Library Section of the Source panel. 4.After the download is completed, a blue dot appears next to the podcast name. This means a new episode is available. 5.Click the Get button to obtain another episode.

14 Podcast-A series of episodes Episode-A single show Segment-A portion of an episode RSS-A news feed is a web page with information coded in XML, which is similar to HTML. The news feed contains all of the information about your podcast, including the title, description, cover art, and details for each episode and the URL for each audio file.

15 1.Audio Podcasts-Usually MP3 file and are the most common type of podcasts. 2.Enhanced Podcasts-Have images to go along with the audio. They can also have chapter markers, making it easier to skip to different portions of an episode. They are an AAC file and are not supported by all devices. 3.Video Podcasts-are movies, complete with sound. Video podcasts can be in a variety of formats, but MPEG-4 is the most popular.

16 You can use iTunes to subscribe to podcasts, even if you found the podcast in another directory or website. 1.Copy the RSS feed’s URL. If the feed is indicated by an image, right-click the image and choose to copy the link. 2.In iTunes, choose Subscribe to Podcast from the Advanced menu. 3.Paste the URL into the field and click OK. 4.The latest episode of the podcast will be downloaded and stored in the Podcast section of your iTunes library.
