Penguins Little black and white bird that cannot fly Don’t worry little fella you are still a bird and that’s no lie You may not be able to soar through the sky But through the water you gracefully glide on by You slip and slide over mountains of ice and snow The way you move with poise and ease is quite a show Your blubber keeps you warm through the Antarctic winters when the temperatures plummet oh so low When the mother lays her egg she hands it off to the father then it’s time for her to go. The father tends to the egg so carefully with a loving heart. All huddled together with other penguin fathers they do not part. The way the father holds the egg gently on his feet for all those months is truly nature’s art. All the while the mother penguin is fattening up in the ice waters swimming like a dart. By Ms. Conrad
