What prints do I leave behind me every day?

I go to the bathroom to have a shave for about 15-20 minutes. Every morning I get up at 7. It is still dark so I switch the light on. What do I do? I use the electricity produced by hydroelectric power stations. What does it mean for nature? I use water. Each minute 2-3 liters of water go through my tube.

After the shave I have a breakfast: boiled or fried eggs, sometimes some porridge, toasts with bacon, tea or coffee. All my food is made of nature objects – plants and animals. All of them are packed – the pack is made of mineral oil. All the remains and other litter I put into my litter bin. What do I do? What does it mean for nature? My litter consists of different materials so it requires sorting for recycling. Due to this fact all the litter goes to the town dump.

My house is near the forest, so after breakfast I take my dog for a walk in the forest. What do I do? My dog makes noise running and barking in the forest – it disturbs forest inhabitants. The dog also tramples down the soil – it prevent forest plants growth. I go to my school by bus. What does it mean for nature? The exhaust of the bus is thrown out in the air, then it settles on the plants near the road and absorbs into the ground.

What do I do? At school I use pens, pencils, books and notebooks. During the break I like to draw on the paper and on the blackboard. All the staff I use is made of nature materials: wood for paper, oil for plastic and printing materials etc. What does it mean for nature? After the school I listen to the music, play the computer and watch TV. I make noise and again I use the electricity.

Global consequences Hydroelectric power stations Russia has branchy and interconnected system of electric power stations that supplies all the territory of the country with the electric power. Moscow is provided with electricity by a net of hydroelectric power stations on the Volga. Although hydroelectric stations are less harmful for environment than nuclear and combined heat and power station, it makes harm to the ecology of the river. Reduction of stores of fresh water Many years people thought that water resources are unlimited. But despite the fact that 70% of the Earth surface is water, the stores of fresh water are not so big: only 2% of all the water are fresh. Moreover considerable part of the stores of fresh water is in glaciers. Even now 1/3 of Earth population lack fresh water..So if people don’t stop wasting water our succession will have nothing to drink.

Global consequences Extra pack Most of the products nowadays are packed. The pack protects food and other things from dirt and damage. It is also made to attract the customer and to show the qualities of the purchase. But not all the pack we have is really necessary – it not only raises the price but also enlarges the pollution. People should prevent making extra pack by choosing products because of not it’s look but it’s quality. Exhausting of forests Overpopulation, pollution and energy consumption have created such planet- wide problem as massive deforestation. People banish the animals from their territory. It cause every ten minutes one kind of animal, plant or insect to die out for ever. If nothing is done about it, one million species that are alive today will have become extinct twenty years from now.

Global consequences Garbage burning Almost all the garbage we through away is taken to a garbage dump where the garbage truck empties it into the ground. Now we are making so much garbage that in many places there is not enough room to bury it all. So the garbage is burning. While burning it emits gases. Now the ozone layer is being damaged by gases that people have made. Air pollution Cars, factories, power stations and rubbish dumps all emit gases which add to air pollution. Air pollution is a very serious problem. In Cairo just breathing the air is life threatening-equivalent to smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. The same holds true for Mexico City and 600 cities of the former Soviet Union.

Use water carefully, avoid wasting water Switch the light off when I don’t use it Use all my materials: notebooks, pens, pencils etc. carefully How should I change my life Sort all my litter for further recycling Not to buy products with extra pack Look after my dog to prevent disturbing forest inhabitants
