3 Did you know? In 2012, 16,900 patients went to emergency rooms because of injuries involving grills. One of every six home structure fires in which grills were involved in ignition, something that could catch fire was too close to the grill. Overall, leaks or breaks were factors in one of every five reported grill fires. Gas grills contribute to a higher number of home fires overall than their charcoal counterparts

4 Objectives Prevent injuries and fires from accruing Grill in a safe manner Understand proper way to turn grill on and off Where your grill should be located How to maintain your grill.

5 Grill safety Keep your grill clear of any combustible materials Keep it away from your house Keep clear from the railing on the deck Have a fire extinguisher near by just incase

6 Grill safety Getting it started 1. Open the lid before turning on the grill 2. Turn on the propane tank 3. Turn on the knobs of the grill burner 4. Push the ignition button If the grill doesn’t ignite you should wait 5 min for the gas to dissipate then you can start it again

7 Grill safety Turning it off 1. Turn off the propane tank 2. Turn off the knobs This way no excess gas can leak out.

8 Grill safety Keep a 3 feet safe zone around the Grill For charcoal fires apply the lighter fluid before you start the fire. keep up on the maintenance. Use a wire brush. Check for leaks in the lines and the tank connections Never leave your grill unattended
