1.  Write down the objective of the day for this class.  What are the steps to creating a stencil?  If you have forgotten look at the steps board.  Draw an image related to the theme of “Ben Lomond arts”

2. Stencils and spray paint

3.  Go over what we did last time.  Finish cutting out your stencil.  Listen to steps on how to spray paint your stencil once done.  Spray paint 3 copies of your stencil, label an turn in.

4.  Went over the next assignment.  We designed a design based on the theme “Ben Lomond Arts”.  We then cut it out of the plastic to make our stencils.

5. Come up with a plan before starting to make spray paint stencils.  Determine what size stencil you need. If the stencil is going to be large, it is okay to include small details. If the stencil is going to be small, a simpler design should be used.  Know how many colors you want to include in the stenciled image. This will affect the amount of materials you need and how many stencils you need to create.  For this assignment you will only use one color.

6.  Draw a picture of the image you want to create a stencil From. - Remember it has to all be connected to the outside material or it will not work.

7.  Create the final image with clean lines and good contrast.  If you are drawing your own image, clearly outline the areas of the image that will be cut out for the stencil. Remember that you need to define the edges and the details of your image, or the stencil will not portray your original drawing.  If you are using a photograph or an online image, you need to use a software program that can adjust the contrast and brightness of your image so that you have defined dark and light areas.

8.  Choose the type of stencil material you want to use.  Cardboard or foam board are good for large, simple stencils on flat surfaces.  Paper works for a single-use stencil on either flat or rounded surfaces.  Poster board holds up better than paper and can be used on flat or slightly rounded surfaces.  Plastic or clear acetate are good if creating reusable stencils for either flat or rounded surfaces.  Frisket film, which is a clear film with a slightly sticky backing, is good for flat and rounded surfaces.

9.  Cut out the areas of your image where you want the paint to show using a utility knife. If the stencil will have more than one color, create different stencils for each color.

10.  Our theme is Ben Lomond Arts 1. You must design an image that relates to this theme in some way. 2. It needs to be school appropriate. 3. Your image can not be someone else's image. 4. Once you’ve designed your image cut it out. 5. Once done cutting spray paint 3 copies. 1. Let dry than turn in.

11.  Starter assignment.  Did you get your stencil cut out?  Were you able to spray paint 3 copies of your stencil?  Did you turn in your stencil labeled correctly and with your name on it?
