2 2 HISTORY 1 Established in 1991 under the ground of the former State Bank of Czechoslovakia In January 1993 when split of the country into two independent states took place, the IBE became organisational unit for special purposes of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), the Central Bank of the newly created Slovak Republic Until late 90-ties the IBE served as a centre through which transfer of banking know how and knowledge of banking was streamed into the Slovak banking sector, in form of technical assistance provided by West, well developed countries

3 3 HISTORY 2 The IBE became fully self sustainable and developed in professional banking training and education centre providing wide scope of training, educational and development opportunities for Slovak bankers Implementation of the Distance Learning system and methodology in second half of 90-ties, development of first DL programmes, opening of the first DL course Bank Management in 1997 Developing and designing various Distance Learning programmes with different duration, aims and contents, targeted at different groups of bankers. All DL programmes are accredited by the Ministry of Education, successful participants are thus awarded certificates with the state validity.

4 4 HISTORY 3 The IBE worked as one of the partners in the project financed by EU Leonardo da Vinci and aimed at development of common European certificate of the foundation level – the European Foundation Certificate in Banking (EFCB). To implement results of the project the IBE developed and designed preparatory course in the form of Distance Learning programme and introduced exams leading to the certificate. The IBE was accredited by the EBTN Accreditation Committee in January 2005 and since that time has run the course as well as exams regularly each year. Introduction and implementation of the Quality Management System according to the requirements of the international norm ISO 9001 in the IBE in 2000. Since that time the IBE QMS conformity to the rules, functionality and full operation have been regularly audited by internationally recognised company and the IBE continues to be the holder of the certificate

5 5 HISTORY 4 In 2003 the IBE became Department of the NBS Headquarters with the full responsibility for the NBS employees training and development In 2004 Slovak Republic joint the European Union and the National Bank of Slovakia became member of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) – The IBE was incorporated into the existing ESCB structure and system of cooperation among ESCB central banks in the area of training as well as into the international structure of technical cooperation among central banks and the system of providing technical assistance to central banks of less developed countries

6 6 HISTORY 5 In 2006 the IBE started to be more active also in providing training services to other financial institutions than banks in relation to the NBS taking regulatory and supervising function over the entire financial market 2008 – The NBS Management plans transformation of the IBE to the independent legal person most likely in the legal form of the non profit institution

40 40 Training for public The IBE arranges practice of students of secondary schools and universities in the NBS The IBE arranges practice of students of secondary schools and universities in the NBS For 2008 the IBE prepared two types of seminars devoted to security elements and disclosure of counterfeits of euro – as a part of the National plan to introduce euro in Slovakia. The first type of the seminar is aimed at development of future lecturers that will act as multipliers in sharing the knowledge further on. The second type is aimed for anybody interested in attaining the knowledge and skills. Both types so programmes can be organised also in house based on order of certain institution/any legal person. For 2008 the IBE prepared two types of seminars devoted to security elements and disclosure of counterfeits of euro – as a part of the National plan to introduce euro in Slovakia.
