AGENDA THE BUILDING RESPONSE TEAM (BRT) AND ITS ROLE SHELTERING-IN LOCKDOWNS TRAINING OF STUDENTS

2 BRT BRT LEADER- GIVES DIRECTION, COORDINATES, PROVIDES INFORMATION TO PRINCIPAL- MR. MACRI SPECIAL NEEDS COORDINATOR- POINT PERSON FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS- MS. RADE INCIDENT ASSESSOR- GATHERS INFORMATION ON INCIDENT AND REPORTS IT TO BRT LEADER- MS. EMESON EMERGENY OFFICER- WORKS DIRECTLY WITH BRT LEADER, PROVIDED UPDATES ON ALL EFFORTS AND INCIDENT UPDATES- MR. LLOYD, MR. COMPARETTO ASSEMBLY POINT COORDINATOR- COORDINATES MOVEMENT OF STAFF AND STUDENTS, AND DIRECTS MOVEMENT AT EVACUATION SITE- MS. MC CAFFREY

3 PROCEDURES ANNOUCEMENTS WILL BE MADE OVER THE PA SYSTEM REGARDING SHELTER-IN OR LOCK DOWN ALL TEACHERS WILL HAVE A RED FOLDER WITH DETAILS OF EVACUATION SITES AND ASSEMBLY CARDS- THESE FOLDERS SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH YOU FOR ALL FIRE DRILLS FOLDERS SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO ANY TEACHER WHO IS IN THE ROOM AT THE TIME OF EMERGENCY- NOT LOCKED AWAY DURING FIRE DRILLS, EMERGENCIES, BRT MEMBERS WILL BE IN VESTS FOR EASY IDENTIFICATION

4 SHELTERING-IN PROBLEM OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING
ALL DOORS, ENRTY/EXITS POINTS ARE LOCKED NO ONE IN OR OUT OF THE BUILDING BUSINESS AS USUAL INSIDE THE SCHOOL

5 SHELTER IN EXIT ASSIGNMENTS
EXIT 1- KAREN EXIT 2- MS. RADE EXIT 3- MS. VINCESLIO EXIT 4 (YARD)- MS. SCOLARI EXIT 5 (GYM)- MS. COMNINAKI AUDITORIUM- MS. DUDEN KITCHEN- KITCHEN STAFF -NO ONE IS ABLE TO LEAVE THE BUILDING DURING THIS TIME

6 LOCK DOWN SOFT- INSIDE BUILDING, NO WEAPON INVOLVED
HARD- INSIDE BUILDING, WEAPON INVOLVED STUDENTS MOVE OUT OF SIGHT AND REMAIN SILENT- AGAINST WALL OR IN TRIANGLE IN MIDDLE OF THE ROOM TEACHERS LOCK CLASSROOM DOORS, TURN OFF LIGHTS, CHECK OUTSIDE ROOM FOR ANY STUDENTS ENTRANCES/ EXITS TO THE SCHOOL ARE OPEN FOR SUPPORT PERSONNEL IGNORE FIRE DRILL BELL IN THESE SITUATIONS IF LOCK DOWN HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED WAIT FOR ALL CLEAR MESSAGE

7 EVACUATION MUST LEAVE THE BUILDING, POSSIBLY RELOCATE
TAKE RED FOLDER, INCLUDING CLASS ROSTERS ASSEMBLE IN SCHOOL YARD UNLESS DIRECTED OTHERWISE HOLD UP ONE OF THE CARDS TO INDICATE STATUS RELOCATION SITES LISTED IN FOLDER- PRINCIPAL MAKES DECISION TO RELOCATE AND WHERE

8 THE GREEN CARD OK ALL STUDENTS ACCOUNTED FOR, ADHERING TO ALL PROTOCOLS AND DIRECTIVES, NO INJURIES OR NEED FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

9 THE RED CARD BEHAVIORAL ISSUES THAT REQUIRE ASSISTANCE
STUDENT WAS PRESENT, NOW MISSING

10 THE MEDICAL CARD + STAFF, STUDENT INJURED, REQUIRES MEDICAL ATTENTION

15 TRAINING THE STUDENTS ALL STUDENTS MUST BE TRAINED BY END OF SEPTEMBER
ADVISORY PERIODS FOR REGENTS CLASSES- HARRIS AND MONTGOMERY WILL CONDUCT TRAINING DOE RESOURCES POSTED ON THE WIKI: VISIT EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PAGE ON WIKI MUST BE AWARE OF TERMINOLOGY, SYMBOLS AND PROTOCOLS

16 POSTER Evacuate: ( Fire Alarm or Directions)
 Students: Leave your items behind.  Students: Form a line, remain quiet and listen to directions from your teacher.  Teacher: Lead students to evacuation location and take attendance.  Teacher: Notify BRT/SSA staff if there are missing, extra, or injured students.  Teacher: Remind students that the use of electronic devices is prohibited. Lockdown: ( Soft or Hard Lockdown)  Students: Remain silent and quickly move out of sight and away from the door.  Teacher: Quickly retrieve any students in hallway and lock the classroom door.  Teacher: Wait for responders to open the door (or) await the “all clear” announcement: “The lockdown has been lifted.” Shelter- In: (The threat is outside of the building)  Students: Remain inside the building and follow directions of staff.  Teacher: Increase situational awareness.  Teacher: Conduct business as usual.  Teacher: Follow all announced directions.  Remember: No one will be permitted to enter or leave the building during a Shelter- In.
