2 Page 1 British Power Tea -Greater British authority from 1763 to 1775 angered colonists 1. Increased taxes (tea, sugar, paper products) 2. Housing of British troops in private homes 3. Not allowing settlement in western lands 4. No colonial representation in parliament In 1770, five colonists were killed in the Boston Massacre -The Tea Act gave exclusive rights to buy, transport and sell (without British tax) to the East India Trading company CHAPTER #7 The Road to Revolution NOTES On the Brink of War

3 Page 2 (continued) -In 1773 colonists dumped 300 chests of tea into Boston Harbor (Boston Tea Party) -The Coercive (Intolerable) Acts were imposed to punish the citizens of Boston: 1.Closed the port of Boston 2.Stripped Massachusetts ’ Colonial Govt. 4 Page 3 (continued) -Because militias were stockpiling weapons, rumors of an English attack spread -Spies designed a system of warning local militias (minutemen) of a potential attack -On April 18th, 1775, P.
